Sparkplugs....power bhp differences

I recently install in my 992 C2, 2000, a new set of sparkplugs ( Iridium power ) bought at 911design, to replace the originals, and a new BMC air filter.

Now I decided to go at a dyno machine to test the car, it was a rotronics.
Result : 298,9 bhp.

I was surprised because I espect a litle more, with this modifications, but the engine didnīt reach the original 300 bhp.

Another situation is that the exaust sound is very different of the normal Carrera, more noised. I donīt kow if this can make differences too, and still some power too?

I ear that the sparkplugs can make differences , and in this case the Iridium power sparkplugs can reduce the engine power, and give less bhp in the end.

I try to undersand and see if anyone here new abolut this situation.

Thanks for the comments.

I doubt the spark plugs made much of a difference, unless the old ones were in bad condition. And although this is a controversial subject, an air filter might be good for a couple HP unless you accompany it with free flowing exhaust, ECU, forced induction, turbo charging, y-plenum, performance camshafts, and a 3,7L silsleeve rebore.

The max rated engine power for a 2000 year engine is 221 kilowatts at 6,800RPM, which is equivalent to 296 horsepower.

So you have an 11 year old car that is still producing what came out of the factory, which is very impressive to say the least.

^well spoke. Plus you need to take into consideration the atmosphere that the dyno test

Well, I think the old sparks was in good copndition, the new ones itīs only for trying to improve something.

* free flowing exhaust, (you mean without cats?)

* ECU---ok.

* forced induction, ( you mean Cold air intake system? )

* turbo charging, - no at all

*y-plenum, - differences?

*performance camshafts, -I heard aboult that.

and a 3,7L silsleeve rebore. ??? can explain?

The car has a new engine , with 20.000km now.

Sure, or with higher flow cats, headers, and mufflers.

DME flashes accompany the intake and exhaust mods.

Super charging, turbo charging...

* turbo charging, - no at all
Good, don't do it. Buy a Porsche turbo instead.

*y-plenum, - differences?
If you have forced induction or other intake mods, there are different plenums that supposedly change the power curves. Snake oil?

*performance camshafts, -I heard aboult that.
Expensive, goes well with ECU mod.

Have the engine bored out to 3.7 liters. There's nothing better than more displacement to add tons of power. Very expensive.

The car has a new engine , with 20.000km now.
Keep driving it and enjoy it. Don't change anything. Change the oil regularly and keep it topped off. Keep ahead of leaks and strange noises. Most of the bolt-ons are snake oil for adding HP, rather they change the torque curve and exhaust sound along with perhaps a few real world HP. Personally, I've done just about every one of these mods aside from turbo/SC. I really do miss having to give up the change in exhaust note with an aftermarket intake/exhaust.

The only "real" way to add major horsepower is to have it rebored or to add super/turbo charging (the latter of which is generally not recommend on the M96 platform without extensive internal engine reinforcements/modifications).

Hi logray
I agree with you in all points , I donīt wanna do expensive modicatications, in the engine, do gain some extras Bhp's, with the risk of have problems in the future.

I have made some mods, but to improve segurity.

-- In engine - the BMC air filter, the iridium sparkplugs, the RS motor mounts, the x51 oil pan.

--In the suspension, I mount a better suspension the 996GT3 MKII, strutbrace, front and rear;

--brakes- 996Cup brake ducts, SRF castrol oil, goodridge hoses

--wheels - pro-race and toyo r888 ftyres for trackdays

But I'm stay for here, maybe a better pads in the future.

However, nothing more I think I need. If I could in the future a better porsche is welcome. But this is a good car, that I enjoy for sure.
