on a 996, does higher mileage eventually decrease the engine's performance?
So, I've been wondering for some time now...will there ever be a point in time (maybe a certain mileage) where the engine on my 02 996 will lose some of its power capability? Is wear & tear on our engines really an issue to be concerned about?
I'm currently at 32,000 miles. The car feels fine, but I'm worried that in due time, I'll notice a lack in performance. [On my old turbocharged car, turbo lag was very noticeable, especially as I crossed in the 80,000-90,000+ range. Of course, I'm far from that now, but this is still something on my mind].
Any insight?
Thanks

Motor Trend (I think, or maybe C&D) just completed a long-term test on their C4S, and found that it ran harder and faster after 40k miles. I recall also another long-term test on a 99, and they found the same.

In general, the highest performance on an engine will be at about 30K miles (except a Yugo ). It takes that long for everything to wear in together and run its best.
On a Porsche, it'll go to 100K miles fine without really having a noticeable power decrease. I think at that point the seals will start to go a bit and you might start to notice a difference, but that's just my opinion, not fact.

86,000+ miles and I haven't noticed a difference.
But what does make a difference is the weather. It defintiely runs better (i.e., more power) when it's cool outside. It hates hot sunny days.
