joining with my first Porsche!
great site here! I've done a ton of reading. Right now I'm negotiating on a 1999 coupe. If we can settle on a price I'm going to get a PPI with Bavarian Rocket Science in Albany, NY. Anyone ever deal with them before? They seem great, plus they can rebuild my air-cooled VW engine.
My current rides: 2005 Crossfire, 2006 BMW 325xi, 1974 Super beetle, 1964 Beetle, 2007 SX4 (soon to transform into an X3).

Having driven genuine beetles, this will seem like a natural extension of handling that you've already experienced.
Good luck with the negotiations/PPI. The '99's do tend to have more engine problems, so take your time and have reserves. But they are great cars to drive.

I'm not one to get attached to a car while negotiating, so I will take my time and walk out if they are not reasonable (or think they have me over a barrel). They're already ignoring my request for service records, so I'll have to go look for them myself. I think that just cost them $1000 to their bottom line.

I have the dealer in agreement to drive the car to Bavarian Rocket Science (R&D Automotive) for a PPI, so that's all set. I hope it comes back clean. I took it for a test drive and everything was good from the perspective of buying a general used car. No strange noises, no oil leaks underneath or on the undercarriage. If all is good with the PPI, I may be driving it by this weekend!
The color is green, just like this one:

I'll be detailing it and posting pics ASAP.

The PPI found a few things that I'm using to negotiate with the dealer and they are being good about it, at least in discussions. I may be pulling the trigger on it tomorrow and driving it home!

Picked up a pair of infinity kappa 42.9i to replace the dash speakers. I've always like the sound of infinity kappas, so this should be a good upgrade. I just shelled out for the car, so I'm not about to spend $600 for a pair of focals! Maybe I'll start an audio upgrade thread.
