ecm retune should i or not??

Guys I'm thinking about getting the ECM tuned, I know the gains aren't much but I read that it does make a difference on a 996 c2 3.6L I really want a VF kit but at $10,000. yea it started some very instresting conversations with the wife.....they'd never understand!!!! This upgrade however at $700.00 bucks i can do. Just wanted to know if anyone has had it done and is it worth it in a smaller scale? What to expect from it too. Some feedback guys would help. Hey I just want little somthing to hold me over till the next big thing...

I did the EC tune for my 99 C2 3.4 and it made a very noticable difference. I do have exhaust, intake and head port work, but when i plugged it in I felt a much smoother response and the power seemed to come on at a lower rpm giving the feel of a much faster car. Everyone has their opinions so this is mine. It was the best 600 buck i spent on this car!

Give Jags a call at ECU tuning Group!

yea, I called ETG this morning they have a shop here in Norcross GA. the guy I spoke to said he would have someone on his side that deals with that sort of service call me back but no answer yet. I also wonder if there is a difference in the reflash depending on who does it or is it just all the same mapping? Cause I know another shop that can do the tune too, their just a little further away from me. Plus that guy told me in his opinion he doesn't believe the gains are worth the money spent, he strongly recommends the VR kit...duh I wish!!!!!

+1 on the positive feedback with the tune. I have an 02 996 Cab, and previously installed an AfterHours Gen II exhaust. I didn't notice much in terms of power with that mod, but it does sound better and I know I saved weight. The ecu (also installed by JAGS) made a noticeable difference in responsiveness. I drove a friends 997 with the sport/chrono package, and it's similar to hitting the sport button where things liven up a bit, and it certainly feels like more power. Best mod for me so far easily. If you go with ECU tuning group and have a cab, let them know because it requires sepecial tools to lift the top and access the ECU. He did the install in my garage which was convenient for me.

How did you get one from ETG? They said they didn't have one for the cable driven 99's.

Not sure who you spoke with there, but I sent it overnight to them. Jags worked on it and sent it right back. There was a glitch in the mapping that caused my CEL to flag a code so i sent it back again. They found the error and i have been Happy with it for over 6 months now.

To do this "older" ECU, Jags had to take a different approach and actually remove the chip from the box instead of connecting the software and updating the box.

As I understand all tuners have at least one standard map for each model.
If you can not meet the original tuner, you will get a regular map, which I dun really like. Custom map always better, try to meet the tuner in person and tell him what you want, sometimes they are crossing the country.

Ok fellas, I sent the ECU to ETG in CA. for the tune. Just spoke to Farzaan who'd been helping me withit from the start, he inform me that I should get it back sometime Thrusday.......Boy I can't wait! With this, one should not expect a huge gain but anywhere between 20-25 HP increase you would feel a difference. I'll let you guys know how it go's.

Not really sure who you spoke to, but we've been reprogramming these 996's since they came out, cable-driven or not.
