996 C2 Cost efficient tires

Porsche recommended the michellin sport tires, but I was wondering if there were better tire options for the 996 C2 that would be more cost efficient without without affecting the performance. The michellin sport cups would be perfect, but those are quite expensive to replace. I've never tried kumho or toyo. What's everyone's opinion? Thanks.

Street use? Track use? How much do you want to spend? OEM sizes, or different sizes?

For street use, many people like the Sumitomo HTR Z III. On the street, it won't impact your performance too much. On the track, it's another story.

My rears will soon need replacing, but my fronts are very good. If I just replace my rear tires, do I have to get exact replacements (Continental) or can I mix brands?

Never a good thing to mix brands or models on tires. Have people done it. Sure.

I don't usually hear the term cost-effective with Porsches . I've seen good reviews for Hankook and Kuhmo tires, and they're available in the right sizes. "Without affecting performance" is probably a bit much to shoot for -- but you might be able to get pretty close depending on your application. I've been thinking of trying out a set of the cheaper tires -- but then again, it's the only part of the car that touches the pavement.

Oh ok. HTRZIII are great tires for the money as well. I used some of the lesser model Sumitomos in the past and they always seemed to feel a little sloppy or unstable. As if the sidewall was softer than other brands.

I had several sets of Fuzion ZRI on my 99 C2. Awesome tire for the money. Runs a little bit narrow in the back (265) and is slippery for the first 2-300 miles until they get scuffed. Thereafter, it's a quiet tire that lasts. A long time . :-)
