Anyway to tell if your ECU has been remapped or chipped?
HI,
Is there a way to tell if the car has been remapped or chipped? I know the previous owner did not, but he is not sure if the first owner did. The car does pull pretty strong, but I have only been in 1 other C4S which felt slower.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

When I did the PPI, car has never been over rev... so I can assume no ECU mods? Do all remaps raises the rev limit? and Max speed?

Some ECU tunes also disables some emissions check functions like the o2 sensor. If you get underneath the car and unplug one or both o2 sensors and you get no check engine light, then you most likely have a modified ecu.

Very few of them will raise the rev limit. The few NA cars that I've read about having this done have also had extensive internal engine work to strengthen components and balance the rotational mass.
Max speed is a function of the engine power and drag co-efficient, no 911 is speed limited.
On a MY2003 car with the ME7.8, if your DME was flashed, it was likely done in software via the OBD2 port. Some companies with older DME's did require you to remove your DME and send it to them so they could flash it, but most of the popular options are using the software cable.
Unless your car does not have oxygen sensors, I would be surprised if a previous owner would have installed straight pipes and had the ECU flashed for this reason because it is considerably more expensive than just installing O2 simulators. Unless of course they also wanted to flash the ECU to get more power.

Although this is a good indication, I know companies like GIAC has recently recalibrated their over rev settings for customers that opt for the increased rev limit, and thus minimizing or preventing the type1's to show up unless it was done repeatedly.
