Getting a glass window-ed top... need advice..

Hey guys..

well I am now in absolute need of a top for my 2000 c2. I have been holding off forever, and now time has come. I have officially made up my mind on not doing plastic window top, as in my opinion the glass one is tougher and actually looks better.

I am looking at these 2 tops...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-911-...d7e140&vxp=mtr

and

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-01-Pors...87f520&vxp=mtr

Which one...??? they seem identical! does anyone have these?

Thanks!

-Paul

I too have a 2000. Three years ago, I purchased and had this top installed.

It's very well made. The canvas folds nicely. Be absolutely sure that the clam shell latching mechanism is protected by the plastic piece! Unbeknownst to the installer, this piece was missing, and the canvas got caught a few times. I can dig up a photo if you need one.

Thanks for the input doug! Gahh tops seem much more expensive! Good to hear some info though.

Anyone else? Any other input on these?

is it just the pic or is the glass window a lot smaller than the plastic window

i'm assuming it is because it cant fold like the plastic

not liking the look of it at all, shame, i hate the plastic

How hard is it to install the new top. Is this something one can easily do themselves or do you need to take it somewhere?

Definitely NOT a DIY project. I'm probably going to replace my top this year but will be going with the plastic window again. They're much larger and the new ones are double-stitched, unlike the OEM top which was just glued.

The glass window is just too small for my taste.

Hey guys,
its my first post here. i have been lurking on this site for about a year now. i purchased a 2001 c4 convertible. finally i feel i can contribute! so i bought the glass window top. the first ebay ad up there. i was a little skeptical because it wasnt the big brand. got it shipped to toronto, canada with no problems. liza from autotops was very friendly throughout the process. i went with the grey colour to match the original top. i found an installer through my friend that owns a body shop and it was that easy. the installer had my car from wednesday night and called me thursday to pick it up. he said the quality of the top was just as good as any other. when i figure out how to post pics of my car i will. but right now the hard top is on!

bmantdot - Thanks for your feedback!!

Do you have any more pictures of the car? further away? How do you feel about the smaller rear window? does it cut off a lot of visibility or is the difference barely noticeable? How do you feel is the fit when you close the top? do all the seals align as well as they should?

Thanks!
Paul

i have pictures somewhere. that was the only pic i could find quickly. it was taken minutes after i picked it up from the installer.
i can post more pics when i take off my hard top. i only have the hard top on because i needed the space in my garage. but it's coming off shortly.
the smaller window doesnt make a difference at all. your line of sight doesnt change but of course the total viewing shrinks. it doesnt bother me one bit.
as for fit and finish i couldnt ask for anything more. its clean and simple.
the car spent 3 months in florida this winter under the sun and now its back in canada and no problems.
in my opinion its an absolute no brainer!
i had to pay a little more to get the grey.
auto tops can make your top in any colour. they offered me the new 2012 or 2013 grey colour. i just said "na...lets just stick to factory"

Great thanks for feedback again. Did the glass window reduce some of the roadnoise?

Also - did you get the one with the rear window heater?

Thanks!

The seal on the old top had an air gap so anything would be quieter than before even though the gap was small. I wouldn't say the car is louder. They also supply a head liner that zips up the gap from the plastic window.
I did not get the heater wire. I think it was maybe 100$ more or so but I just didn't think I needed it. Maybe if its your daily driver get it.

The window is approximately, if not exactly, like a 986 Boxster's window. For reference.
