Ignition problems - replaced ignitions switch - electrics still don't work

Used the site to successfully replace a broken ignition switch. However the a/c, wipes and headlights still don't work. The ignition works fine now but the electrics have not come back. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do the high beams work if you pull the stalk toward you?

yes they do. In fact before the ignition switch went, the first thing I noticed was the a/c low beam and wipers did not work. Then the key became difficult to insert. This all happened in the same evening, about two days after I left the car at a new shop to do a simple state inspection.

In another post I saw that you needed to use a hella switch in order to get everything to work right. I bought the switch through autohas az, part number 4A0905849B, cost about $7.00

Sounds like you still have an ignition switch (or possibly wiring) problem. The "flash to pass" high-beam function indicates that your stalk is still functioning. Flash to pass works with the ignition switched off, so it seems your accessories are still not getting power. 4A0905849B is the correct switch if your car is a 2003 or earlier 996, and it still has the original mechanical portion of the switch. If you have a 2004+ car, or if the mechanical portion has been replaced to the updated part (many have been done under warranty), you need 4B0905849.

I used the correct part then. My car is a 2001 and had the original switch. Any suggestions?

Although as I reread your suggestion perhaps mine was upgraded under warranty in which case I should perhaps try installing the updated part to see if that works. What do you think? It's a pain but probably a whole lot quicker to do the install the second time.

It's definitely worth a try. The part is not expensive.

A lot of them got the update to the newer switch 4B0905849. It's much easier (and cheaper) to change out the switch than the whole ignition lock assembly.
