-What do you think of that idea?
-How much does it usually run for the alarm and install?
-I just want the basic power locks and pager remote. No auto-start.

NIKAS is infamous around these parts
My keyless packed it in years ago. Now I just insert the key and turn - old skool style. You can get a new "crystal" and a new keyless alarm "box" (under driver seat and prone to corrosion), for a few hundred bucks plus install from Germany...but I decided just to turn the key and drive.

Yeah but turning the key to open the door on a Porsche just doesn't look right man. Honestly.

That's why I'm considering an alarm installed. Clifford or Viper....

I just got 2 new keys cut and reprogrammed for mine, $365 at the Auto Gallery in Sherman Oaks CA. It takes about an hour to cut the key and reprogram. I do agree turning the key in the door did not feel right for me either. The car comes with an alarm system, motion detectors in the vehicle. The alarm will not sound unless the window is broken or someone reaches in the car when the windows are down. If all you want is to open and close the doors go for the factory its way cheaper and no one has to mess around with the electrical in the car. If you have and old key and the remote just does not work try changing the battery that might just fix the problem then a new alarm system. Also just replacing the key remote I think is around $165 dollars per key.

I would only get an alarm if the car can txt you when some one is messing around with it or the alarm goes off. If some one or some thing breaks the window or hits the car and the alarm goes off and you can not hear it then whats the point? All that does is just attract attention to your beautiful vandalized car.

Call your porsche dealer. Or find out where they make keys for that car.

The reason why I posted this thread is because I'm searching for any alternate route. Meaning I know a Porsche dealer can fix it. But I don't want to get rob at the same time.

You mentioned something about auto gallery?

Yeah if you reside in the LA area thats where I got mine done. There is also another porsche dealer in pasadena and he is even cheaper by like 50 or 60 bucks. He was to far for me to drive. I would call Auto Gallery and tell them what you need. Then call the place in Pasadena and get a qoute from them. Shop around before jumping in to a new alarm system. Just my 2cents.

Keep in mind that a new plastic key moulding will not remedy a broken/corroded keyless entry system (under driver's seat). Switching to the new moulding will require some minor DIY surgery and glue to transplant your old "crystal". There is a DIY on that if you search - lots of us did the Carrera GT conversion when it first came out years ago.
