Sea Foam in the oil??

I have a 2002 C4S with 80k miles. A mechanic suggested seafoam before an oil change to clean everything out. Also suggested that i use it in the fuel as well. Has anyone tried this on a Porsche and what were the results??

When I dropped the sump on my '03, it was immaculate. If you've been changing your oil every 5K or less, I'd say you engine is clean and wouldn't need that stuff.

I used to use it for my boat.

It will help take water out of both gas and oil.

Ditto. It's magic in the gas. I've spoken to many who have used it in the oil but like above, if you don't have gunked up oil you won't need to "loosen" anything up.

I never used it before but sounds promising.
Do i just pour a bottle when i fill up a full tank? Is there a preferred driving style while having the seafoam in the fuel system ?

Did you notice a difference after you poured it in the gas?

^^^ In the 993 the engine ran smoother and quieter. Just put some in the boat Saturday...seems the same....I think I need a new fuel filter, or I may have some moisture/water in the tank.

MADEINPORSCHE: You pour it in your tank when its near empty (at the gas station) then fill up your tank with fuel. I noticed the motor felt smoother & quieter within 30 minutes of driving after adding. I just drove mellow and didn't redline it for 100-150 miles or so.

Just saw this thread referring "ticking & lifters" https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ve-lifter.html

See my reply below:

So I find this thread very interesting as I had recently replied to another thread questioning the use of "Sea Foam". I didn't go into detail why I gave it a try. However, it was for a "ticking" we could not resolve. I had a light ticking coming from the lifters (1998, 993CS2, 120,000 miles). We replaced the lifters and the ticking was now even louder. After my mechanic tried a few other ideas/options...still no resolve. While driving the car the ticking would come and go. Sometimes at start-up, sometimes after longer drives, and idling. It was inconsistent, but it would occur more than not.

Think I heard about Sea Foam on one of those late night car shows on SPEED, like Gearz or Two Guys....???? Not too sure, but I added a can and with 30 miles or so of driving the ticking went a way and never came back!

That link is to a Turbo thread so different engine & maybe not relevant here. Using any oil cleaner circulates the loosened crude thru the engine till it lodges in the lifters & often stays since the lifters have the tightest clearances in the engine.
