bgrph.. I'm thinking maybe its reasonable to sell the vehicle w/full disclosure of needing a clutch job? The car basically looks and runs like new in/out ( but, someone has to love that yellow! ) Thanks for that idea - sounds like an option. Appreciated - TPT

Thank You - I think half my quoted price is reasonable - but 5K to fix a clutch & IMS - seems way high (BTW - I re-checked my notes - they said flywheel would be extra - Anyway - appreciate the response - I'll start shopping around and calling some folks end of this week - I'll post my quotes here ( estimates ) THX

Here is my Clutch bill from about a year ago, prior to me rebuilding my engine and adding a AASCO Light Weight Flywheel. $2652 without the transmission mount which i also had replaced. And the clutch I used was a pricey high performance clutch too. Print my bill out and use that as reference.

2 Dealers I recommend in the Mass area. Zyblut in Amherst just did my coolant tank....He's $80.00 an hr...nice price. He works on them all (air-cooled to water cooled), never mind he has 10 Porsche's in the lot at all times...and his personnal SLS AMG...Nasty Car! The other is a bit furher but Musante Motorsports in East Windsor Ct is awesome. He did my IMS snd RMS for 1600.00. Remove IMS at 700.00 and add a clutch for 550.00 and you know the price!

Both are trusted nice shops in my area (Springfield, MA area)

That's nutty. Too bad you're on the east coast, I'd buy it needing a clutch and just DIY it. I've never done a 996 clutch, but I'm told it's easier than the earlier 911s.

My $.02

I just had my clutch, IMS, RMS, and AOS done at a reputable indy shop for ~$3100 on my 99 C2. They had to resurface the flywheel as the clutch was down to the bolts, but it didn't do any real damage. The clutch pedal is much easier to push and modulate now as expected. Hope it works out!

The bill doesn't have a the labor rate, but total labor on the job was $1050. Since they have to drop the transmission to replace the IMS and RMS, the AOS was only $157 and the clutch was $0 (labor). The shop is Imola Motorsports in Minneapolis and I've had a very positive experience with all their work. They have some pricing info on their site:

It sounds to me like they aren't giving you a discount for the overlapping labor. That's just my simple guess.

Good luck with everything!

At any rate, the local Porsche indy place quoted me 4800 - clutch job, flywheel & bearing (the chap just took it for a ride around the block) - I'm sure he is an expert, just thought that sounded way too-high? Everything else on the car is mint - 57K miles - Question: Can someone recco an indy shop in MA that would be LESS than 4800.00? OR, are there other things I should/can rule out??

Huge Thanks.

Trooper, I'm curious as to who quoted you on that as I am local also. Anyway, your best bet would be
