Installed new Double Din head unit.
My old Pioneer radio just wasn't cutting it anymore. It was time i took my 99 and updated it with some modern technology, haha.
Radio:Kenwood DDX-719 $398.00
iPod/iPhone Connector:$29.99
eBrake Bypass:$13.00
Porsche 996 Double Din Install kit:$165.00
The double din kit i got off ebay was perfect and made the install very easy. It came with step by step direction and came with everything you need to go from single to double din. http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-01-PORSCH...item3375a80f35
The head unit has bluetooth and works great with the iPhone. It works with most apps on the screen. I can use my slingbox player app and have cable tv on my car's screen. Also works with maps, youtube, netflix and a few more. I bought a back up camera and will be installing it this weekend.
Here are some photo's of before and after:

Nice!!! I like that a lot! I may have to go that route. My stock radio/cd player isn't cutting it. Could stand an UPGRADE!!!!

Nice update. Like many, I've still got the ancient OEM Becker 220 with OEM speakers. Additionally, mine has an old Jamiroquai disk that refuses to eject - like having canned heat in my dash. I'm tempted to replace the head unit, but will the OEM speakers do any justice to a new one? Hardly ever listen to anything other than the exhaust response from my right foot anyway! Suggestions welcome!

Changing the head unit will give you a noticeable improvement. Changing the AMP and speakers also will triple that improvement.
When I switched mine, I originally just switched the head unit (Pioneer AVIC Z120BT) and I disconnected the OEM AMP. (Couldn't use it because of the lock code) It sounded pretty good since the head unit put out 40 watts by itself. Later, I replaced the OEM amp with an Alpine PDX-5 and I replaced the speakers with Infinity Kappas. Now it sounds like a music studio - very much like you would expect for an exotic sports car. Oh, I added a couple of 6.5" subs as well so not to waste the 300 watt sub channel on the PDX-5. Total cost was about $ 2K - did the install myself.

I changed all the speakers in the car to some basic Pioneers like 4 years ago. I have them wired with the stock amp. When i had my pioneer radio they sounded ok,with this Kenwood they sound a lot better.I also added an 8in subwoofer to get some good bass back.

Stereo upgrades make a big difference in these cars. The speakers are the weakest link, and replacing them tends to make for a pretty dramatic improvement. It's also quite nice to have modern features on your headunit like Bluetooth, Sirius XM, Pandora, satellite navigation, etc.
I'm happy I upgraded mine.

You guys have got me twitching about my lame setup. Q. Has anyone done the Stage 4 Pioneer route with the DEXP99RS? No Bluetooth, but aesthetically it looks OEM and sounds incredible, even if it's a couple years old now:

Great post!!!
You are really smart
I spent hours researching and learning how to remove and install them.
If you have any questions, I think the article bellow will help you answer it: http://speedfinal.com/double-din-head-unit/
There may also be problems I have not encountered .
