My driver's side (left) piston for my convertible top has a pretty bad leak in it. I'm looking on Ebay at a couple of replacements. Do I need to worry about which side the piston came out of on the donor car, or do they work with either side? The seller tells me they'll work with both sides, but I'd like a second opinion.

thanks!

According to the Porsche parts catalog the two pistons are identical (same Porsche part number).

I changed mine recently and i'm pretty sure that the hydraulic cables are longer on one than the other. I could be wrong, i did it a few years ago.

Yeah, that's what had me wondering. I seem to remember reading something sometime about the tubes being different lengths, but then again, isn't the hydraulic pump pretty much dead center in the car? It'd stand to reason that they'd be the same length, but who knows... same part number seems to indicate that they're identical.

Yeah. I've done it myself before on the other side. It's not too hard.

I have a used one on order right now. $300 with shipping included. New ones are $750 if I remember right. Ouch. So I'll give this a shot and hang onto my core to have it rebuilt if I run into any more problems. It's my only car so I need to minimize downtime.
