While speed shifting from 3rd to 4th in the higher rpms (3.5K - 4.0K) I occasionally hear a squeal like sound. I assume the sound is generated by a loose belt. Is this normal while speed shifting? Or would this indicate a worn belt, and if so, which belt?

I would bet if it's a belt it would be either the AC or alternator. Sometimes when the AC clutch is going bad the belts will squeel as well. If your pushing her hard and going through the gears all you should hear is the engine growl.

And not to nit-pick, 3.5 - 4k rpms is not really high, around town it's usually where you would shift, when pushing her 5 - 6.5k is a good shift point.

Your absolutely right. On the highway, I have been pushing her in the 4.5k - 5.5k range. 3k - 3.5k on the streets. Nonetheless, I'll check into the AC and alternator belt issue. Thank you for your response.

It could also be the cam shaft synchronizer or cam actuator, if you can't identify the location get it to a shop.
