Thanks. Is there a special adapter? The OBDII won't plug in. It looks like it is the same as all my other cars, but I can't get it to seat. when I try to force it, it seems to rock from left to right as if there was something in the center that is not allowing it to go in. It fits on my other cars. And yes, I rotated it 180 degrees. See photo of OBDII connector.

Hmm, not sure, my cable just plugs right in and then hooks to my laptop.
You can also go to Pepboys, Autozone, etc., and they will pull your codes for you at no cost, and then you can post them here.

I'm sure others will chime in, but here is what I see for that code:
P0509 -- Idle Air Control System Circuit High.
Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0509
- Dirty throttle body - Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged - Faulty Electric throttle control actuator - Intake air leak - Poor electrical connection to the Intake Air Control (IAC) valve
Possible Solutions
If there are no intake leaks, clean throttle body, adjust engine idle and erase engine code. If the code comes back you may have to replaced the Electric Throttle Control Actuator (Motor) to repair the problem.
My first question would be have you done anything to the car since right before the code turned on, including getting gas? I would say it's entirely possible your gas cap is not screwed on all the way since the last time you filled up, causing the air leak.
Cheers,
DS

A couple of things for me to check. I cleared the code and will see if it comes back. So far, so good. First, I replaced the air cleaner filter last week, but I have about 50 miles on that. Second, it happened much closer to a refill, but there were two restarts, and about 10 miles before it got lit up. I did check the cap, and it was tight. Of course it may be the cap itself. Thanks for all your input.

More than likely it's a gunky throttle body.
Easy to clean: remove air intake hose to throttle body, attack the residue with carb cleaner and a rag--move butterfly with finger to get its backside and all around where it "seats" during idle. Reattach air intake hose 10 minutes, tops. I do this as routine maintenance with each oil change.
Good luck.
