p. 100 of the owner's manual states must be done by dealer if auto/self-leveling is not working

I think PIWIS has that option.

I'm pretty sure the manual adjustments only pertain to the non-xenon headlamps as all the factory xenon equipped cars should have self leveling system. There are sensors in front and back that are attached to the control arms that send angle information back to the ecu that in return controls the leveling motors up or down as necessary.

Trying to find where I read about the adjustment. Does seem that dealer would use the PIWIS to do so but still confirming.

I have a 2002 C4 Cabrio and have adjusted the headlights. In the manual it tells you how to adjust them vertically. Only the dealer can adjust them horizontally. Your will need a long ball hex wrench. Other than that it is very easy.

Do you have factory Xenons?

Yes.

The adjustment changes the height of the beam, the autolevel still works, just that the level is higher. It is documented in the manual. If you need I can photocopy that page and put it in this thread.

That would be great. I wasn't clear if the auto leveling would bring any manual vertical adjustment back to its original position or not. Thanks for the verification.

I would be curious if the mk1 headlights also has this manual adjustment.

Thanks! I'll see if my mk1 has those two areas. I've taken off my headlights several times without giving any attention to the holes next to the disassembly hole. Now I guess I know that there might be a function to those as well.

I had thought about stacking washers to the auto leveling sensors to fool it so it can raise the beam slightly but this is obviously easier and preferred.
