Go w 5w40. Check out LN Engineerings site for his oil info. Also, look at the spin on filter! Search oil change in the red dragon too.

My previous post:

Many run Mobil 0-40 with no issues. However, I think there are much better options out there. You are exactly right, I think Mobil sheers too quickly, and when thin starts to burn off more than others. Check into the Mobil 5w-50 for a better alternative. You can find it online and also Amazon. I would definitely look at the Joe Gibbs DT40. It has the high zinc / ZDDP that the others used to have and quit using. Amsoil European is also a better choice in the 5w-40 and you can get it online too. I hear Rotella is amazing and has great UOA results. It has the high ZDDP that you need and is made for high heat applications. You'll get a hundred different opinions, so do some research and be happy with your choice. It looks like if you stick with any of the above you'll be doing well!

Unfortunately the owners manual accounts for a lot of oil selection confusion do to its listing viscosities that are no longer approved.

If you read the owners manual somewhere it should say to consult with the dealer for the most current oils approved for your car's engine.

My local dealer service department gives me a copy of the latest approved oils list whenever a new one (about every 2 years) is released.

I'd stay with an oil from that list. There are a good number of oils, around 30 or 40 oils to chose from though some are specific to a region and not available in other areas. But there are enough that are available almost everywhere in the USA.

While Mobil 1 0w-40 comes in for a lot negative press it is a good oil and a lot of engines are using it and obviously not having any issues. (My 02 Boxster with over 268K miles and my 03 Turbo with over 108K miles to name just two.)

I'm not sure there's ever been an issue from the oil per se. What happens is the oil is left in service way too long or something else goes wrong and the oil is blamed.

Of course, it is your car and you can run any oil you want but my advice would be to stay with approved oil, change the oil and filter more often than the schedule calls for -- I like 5K miles -- and enjoy your car. This means spending your time driving the car and avoiding oil threads.

I'll be coming up on an oil change and I think I will go with the DT40 I like the specs and coments here. How often do most of you change your oil. My 02 996 C2 w/Tiptronic is my daily driver yes I play now and then but not every day. It has 81K on it. Is 5K miles between changes the norm for most of you?

I change mine every 3-5K or every 4 months, which ever comes first, usually 4 months wins!
