Are there any harder compound tires available for the rears?

Just burned through a set of rear Dunlop 9000 tires in less than 7K miles. 305-30-19's. Car is lowered, but was aligned properly.

These tires are a little pricey and I don't drive agressively. Well, then again based on my tire wear, maybe I do I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm not doing track days so I'm looking for something with a little more tread life for the rear tires. The tires on there now wear almost as fast as the ones on my bike.

I went to tire rack, but they've just got the usual suspects on there. Hoping someone on here may know of a higher mileage rear tire in my size.

Funny thing was that I had no idea my tires were freaking bald from the inside to the middle. I just get checking the outside area that I could see in the fender and that part looked great. Took the dealer to point it out. How embarassing

always check out the inside rears. u'll be surprised almost every time u check them.

for that size u probably don't have much choice. Pzero Rosso 305/25-19 will be the same if not softer. very expensive as well. the Bridgestone S-03 might last longer but their max size is 285/30-19.

what is the smallest tire i can put on a 10.5 inch cargraphic wheel? i don't want to stretch the tire over the rim. I hate that look. Prefer to have a little extra over the edges to protect the lip as well.

Can I get away with a 285 or a 295? Seems like there is a lot more to choose from in those widths.

Scratch what I said about the size. They're actually 305-25-19's. My bad.

What are my width options for this 19" tire profile?

Sounds like you could almost double your mileage on you tires by having them flipped on the rims as a form of rotation...

EXACTLY!!!!

The negative camber these cars have will ALWAYS wear tires faster on the inside. If you flip them every 5000 (3500 ideally), you will get much more life from them. An important handling item to keep in mind though is that unless you plan to do it from the word go, don't bother. It will upset the car's handling characteristics.

By the way, the Dunlops have always been a softer than average tire. Good grip, below average wear.....

I'm not sure what you mean by flipping them aren't tires unidirectional?

yes tires are unidirectional but as long as the tires do not have an inside and outside then you can unmount the tires and swap them left to right, right to left. an assymetric tire like the pirelli asimmetrico, michelin pilot SC2 and conti SC2 have an "outside" side so you wouldn't be able to swap sides. with symmetric tires like bridgestone so3, dunlop 9000, yokohama AVS you can.

Now I have to go look what kind of tire I have. It may not be a bad thing then that I don't have a seperate set of rims for winter tires since this makes me mount/remount tires about every 6 months. I just need to mark the sides then so I know which side gets mounted where....

Just check'd I'm Bridgestone Potenza S02A so I will be keeping up the winter/spring practice of mounting/remounting and this time making sure they are swapped side to side...

Karlooz & Damon,

You guys just saved me a couple of grand in buying winter rims and tires more often.

I love this board....

Just for that I'm never buying tires from anyone but Tirerack again(like I ever did before since they seem to have the best prices anyway)....

Cheers,
Corey

SUCK IT UP !!!

You spend all that money trying to make a cab look like a Turbo cab and you complain about buying rubber......

Maybe you should just let your wife drive the car and then the rubber would last longer...

You look cute in the rental PT Cruiser anyway

Update. Bought a set of Dunlop 285 30 19's off ebay. $225 for the pair. Brand spankin' new. Yes, that's right, $225 for the pair. My tire installer was a little skeptical till he saw them. He liked them so much he bought the remaining 5 sets and I bought another set for myself to put in storage. And as an added bonus, this tire runs a little wide, so it's almost as wide as my smoked 305's.
