I traded in a 2001 boxster with a 996 nose into a porsche dealer and nothing was taken off. I even had a big ding on the hood from a rock ding/chip that would need to be repaired/repainted as it was though.

This reminds me of when I went to trade in my VW passat for my Audi. For example, they wanted to deduct $1500 for a scratched/scraped rear bumper. My rear neighbor who owns a dodge dealership, bought the car off me for about 6k more than the audi dealer and also did some sort of pass though to get me sales tax credit with the audi dealer. He said they will just get a bumper repair guy in who will fill the scrapes in the bumper and touch it up and no one will notice. He said it's done all the time even to new cars off the lot.

One thing to remember about modern porsche's, almost every one will need a respray of the front bumper(if they do not have the clear) at least once in it's first 5 years of life since they paint is so soft it collect rock chips like my son collects superhero toys. If it's done right, including having it painted off the car, using german paint, not only is no one the wiser, it actually is a plus to someone buying the car.

The key is to document the repaint with an invoice just incase someone calls BS that the bumper has been painted, but as I said they shouldn't be able to tell.

Repainting the front bumper should have absolutely zero impact on the value of the car (as long as it's not a hack job!). They're repainted all the time.

Two things:
1. Here in North Carolina, we have a law stating that you must declair body damage if the damage exceeds 25% of the car's value. If not, no comment required.
2. If the repaint is plastic or urothane, a repaint is acceptable with no deduction. Repaint of sheet metal may be treated differently.

We recently had the front bumper on my wife's Jaguar repainted after a boy on a bicycle crashed into it (while parked). The body shop removed the bumper, stripped it and baked the paint on in an oven. That last step is key, as that's how the car is painted at the factory. The result was perfect, despite the fact that it's a dark blue color.

I agree with clear bra after repaint. The aftermarket paint just does not do well with any debris, including bugs. But it must be a good job or the paint will pull off when they strech the clear bra. I had my entire carbon fiber hood also done because the paint on the front bonnet takes a beating with the 911 for some reason. It looks like new after 3 years. I sold my 00 C4 just after a bumper respray and should have covered it. In just one month it had a years worth of chips. I still got a great price for it. Will
