Unhappy Please help. Horn going off when I turn?

My 99 C2 is honking when I make a sharp turn, or bumpy turn. If I hold the horn/steering wheel cover out, it stops, but it's embarrassing. What is the fix?

I also need to pull my spark plug tubes. What is best to use...Marine plug of some type?

Thanks for any help.

LOL!!!! I'm sorry I don't have a fix (except maybe removing and replacing the horn cover maybe?) but I imagine this being very hil arious and frustrating at the same time. GL!

As I recall, there are some little rubber bumpers on the steering wheel frame that deteriorate over time. This allows metal-to-metal contact when you turn or brake hard, which causes the horn to honk. You should be able to find a DIY fix online on rennlist or renntech. Remember to disconnect the battery before you unplug the airbag and make sure to reconnect the airbag before you reconnect the battery! Otherwise you'll get a CEL.

Dennis C has the right idea. There is a metal horn plate under the airbag cover which has 4 rubber bumpers. Replacement price for a new plate is around $50 if that's the problem. Hope you get it fixed.

On the spark plug tubes I used an 1-1/4" and shaved it a bit the 1" model was too small. I also used a chip puller I had in the tool box on angle the teeth were no long enough to scratch anything. All inexpensive parts I replace the tube and the seals.

The horn is definitely from the weight of the air bag compressing the rubber underneath. I also noticed, it only does this when it is really hot. it was honking like crazy tonight 103 degrees, but this morning at 70 degrees, it did not honk at all. I just stuffed some thick paper around the air bag cover before i drove home from work. It did not honk after that. Does anyone know the part number for the rubber spacer?

Also, thanks for the diameter for the marine plug. I'm not sure what a chip puller is though. What does that do? Sorry, but I just want to be sure and do it right. I have oil drips on my headers right after doing spark plug changes. I'm pretty sure it's the plug tubes on passenger rear side only. Looks like some seepage around that area under the headers too? Not sure what is causing the gunk in that area.

Chip puller was used back in the day when you could remove and swap chips on a circuit board.
I had my car apart and the 1" plug didn't fit so I opened up the chip puller and inserted it all the way hooked the tube and popped it out.
My Cam seals were leaking also so I ended up pulling the rear bumper and the mufflers out to see what I was doing.

Also had an engine covered in gunk perfect time to clean it.

Thanks, pors. Funny how well paper has been working. : ). Hey Jay, that's just what my engine looks like in that last rear pic. I hope to get the chip puller and do the job this wk end.
