Question AC question

I'm having a problem in the South Louisiana humidity. If I leave my AC on auto or manual with the temp set, there is always air blowing on the windshield. At night this causes instant fogging. PIA to have to constantly use wipers. The only way I found to not have AC on the windshield is to press the floor arrow. This moves the air only to the floor vents, doesn't bother me too much, but the ladies get cold feet. Not condusize to a planned "hot evening".

How can I turn off only the top vents and still have the dash vents blowing?

Thanks!

Just hit the middle vent button. This only allows air to come from the central vents.

Here is a pic. Turn off the up arrow and down arrow. Then turn on the vent button which is in between the up and down arrow:

When I start my AC the air comes out only from the center vents. Then after approx 5 minutes or so of operation, the system opens the vents to flow to the windshield. Is this standard? I can then manually engage the "center button" which redirects the flow; but why is this necessary? Thanks.
