Check Engine Light, Does it matter?

Im sure this is an easy one. Ive had a check engine light on for 3 months now. Comes and goes. I know the problem has to do with the fuel system(no big deal). The car drives fine. I have heard though that when the light is on it does not perfprm as well and I have heard that the light does nothing. Which is true. In my experience so far it seems that the car drives sooooooo much better(and faster) when the light is off. What is the correct answer? Thanks in advance.

Dont know exactally, mine went on for a worn through vacuum hose, but it's my understanding that if it blinks, your in big trouble.

What is the code(s)? You shouldn't just ignore it.

I havent pulled the code. The dealership did about 3 months ago. I think the carbon canister or something like that is messed up in the fuel system. It's a common problem from adding too much gas aftert eh pump stops.(previous owner)

Mine was coming on and off intermittently like yours...

I changed the air filter, removed the MAF and cleaned with contact cleaner. Problem solved - two months, 1500+ miles later and no issues...

Agree with the other folks, get the codes read (can be done for free at auto-parts stores) and try to pinpoint.

Good Luck
