Question $100 labor for oil change - normal?

Just had the oil changed in my 2004 C2/X51 and labor alone was $100 for the oil change. Is this normal? Appears excessive compared to other cars I own. What are your experiences with labor on oil changes?

Just the oil change, here is the breakdown:

$21 filter
$67 oil
$100 labor
$8 for waste disposal
It did take over 90 minutes to complete. This is my first Porsche and don't know how hard an oil change is on this car.

I think the minor service at 7500 for me which included an oil change was $225 at the dealer with the PCA discount on parts.

"Minor Service" is Porsche-speak for way overpriced oil change. My dealer charged $250 for my old C2 and now wants $350 for the GT3 (it takes a half quart more oil). The dealer is mostly for warranty work these days.

Talking Oil change is a DIY

Just bought two 5 Qt Mobil One Super Syn jugs for $41 at Wal Mart plus a filter at dealer for $10 for a total of $51. I change the oil myself on a 99 C2, not hard at all. Stop getting ripped.

Somewhere I read that the 996 requires you to use a pressure pump when changing the oil to compleley cycle it all out. Did you use one?

$100 is about 3/4 of an hour for most dealer shops, considering most have a labor rate of about $135/hr.

So $100 is not off the mark for having someone else change your oil.

But if you are halfway competent with a wrench, here are the instructions to DIY

It's steep but that's what you get from the dealer. Hope you got a rental car or at least some free coffee! next time, do it yourself with basic tools and save.

...Ya just gotta laugh...$24 for anything else...

Reminds me of when I had my first P-car...a 968. There were 4 screws missing from the hatch glass, so I ordered them. The guy told me "$6".

They called me a couple weeks later, I go up to the parts counter, the guy comes with the 4 screws and hands me the invoice to pay. It was $24.

I said, "Hey, I thought it was supposed to be SIX BUCKS!"

....He said, "Each."

Sounds cheap to me! I hate paying it but for what the hourly rates go for it sounds good. Especially since you dont have to change it every 4000 miles!

That price sounds fair.. Keep in mind whats peace of mind worth. Most decent shops will inspect the car also... Consider it cheap insurance.. I mean would you really trust your car to those $24.00 oil change shops..
