Question regarding Miles Per Gallon
I'd appreciate any feedback on that onboard computer that is supposed to give us the mpg. for a while it was telling me i was getting over 18mpg, then 17 all the way down to 14. my driving has remained the same as has the type of fuel i use. i'm using chevron 91, from usually the same station. i've heard it can be that the fuel is changing due to the gas being in tight supply...or that it's a seasonal thing. i've asked the dealer, as well as my mechanic whom i trust...all have given me non-satisfying answers. i'm driving a 40th that seems to purr so i don't feel it's an engine problem but what the hell do i know? any input would be appreciated!

Tire pressures, maybe? When I first got my '02 C2, I was getting crappy milage, like low teens. Then, I check the tires and they were way low in pressures. After I got them pumped up, I started getting around 20mpg...

Fuel Mileage
I get 20.2 miles per gallon measured over the last 6,000 miles. About 50 percent freeway driving at 85 or so, the rest town driving ( San Francisco, San Jose, etc). No hills or mountains around. I have a 1999 C2 with the 3.4 liter engine. Tires pumped as per the book 40 front and 44 back. Use a lot of engine braking rather than brakes. I would classify as an aggressive driver BUT do rarely rev over 5K revs during normal driving. Generally shift between 4.5 and 5k revs. That's different when on the autocross circuit of course.

Remember, unless you reset it, the computer keeps a running tab on overall mileage which will include time spend idling, sitting in traffic etc. for the entire period being tracked. My average mileage is about 16.7 with an average speed of 33 mph over the last 5000 miles, including heavy traffic and lots of idling. The occasional high speed highway trips are not enoough to bring the mpg up even though I probably got 25 mpg while cruising.

i appreciate the feedback. i think my low mileage is due to the sad fact i rarely get out of town, spend way too much time idling at lights, stopping, and traffic jams...i know my car wants out of the city and i'm hoping to make that happen soon. again, thanks for your thoughts....
