kbliew: do you have this mod already, or are you considering doing it?

you're making this way more complicated that it needs to be

i'm talking about the center grill only, not the sides. the center grill has nothing to do with the mounting of the bumper.

the center grill is just cosmetics and has nothing to do with the actual mounting of the bumper. The turbo one you can see through, and the C4S is pretty much solid so you can't see what's behind it. If you don't have the 3rd radiator, the turbo center grill looks kind of funny because you can see a big vacant area behind the grill. whereas the C4S grill is just about solid, so you can't see through it. look at the pic i posted vs the pic from that thread. you can actually see the ground through the turbo center grill because there is nothing but air behind it unless you have thte 3rd rad of course...........

i think you're getting yourself confused by that other thread. with regards to that gap he was talking about, that has nothing to do with the center grill. the gap he was talking about is where the turbo bumper meets the car. on the turbo there is splash guard that fills that gap and allows you to bolt it up. however, it is completely unecessary to fab those bracket that he did. again, those points are for the splash guard and really have nothing to do with keep the bumper from flying off the car

now, i don't agree with the way he cut the side grills up either. just the cut the metal bumper back a couple inches on either side. much simpler. you don't want to be involved with cutting plastic and all that nonsense. i can only assume he didn't have th tools to do it,or was just plain nervous. everbody cuts it. it looks like crap when you see that metal bumper poking out when you look in the side grills.

okay, so here's the moral of my story. the center grill is just cosmetic and has nothing to do with the mounting of the bumper. the turbo bumper you can see through (hence the increased airflow to the 3rd rad) and the C4S grill is solid (cosmetics to cover up the lack of the 3rd). that's it.

i went back and put the turbo pic underneath my C4S pic so you could see the diff. The turbo bumper is the same part as the C4S and the anniversary edition. Only diff is the center grill and the lower lip you get.

Actually if you have an anniversary edition or a turbo you have a 3rd radiator due to the X51 engine.

If you did a proper bumper conversion, you can't see the ground, there is a filler underbody piece between the bottom of the turbo bumper and the bottom mount points on the narrow body otherwise you will actually destabilize the car at high speeds by having air flow down at high speeds pushing the front end up.

However if you don't have a 3rd radiator and have the proper piece so you can't see the ground and don't have the C4S center piece, you have a giant parachute on the front of your car causing a great amount of drag.

If however you have a 3rd radiator, as you plan on doing, and have the proper underbody filler piece and duct work from an anniversary edition you will not have additional lift at high speeds.

i think i was pretty clear about the grill being necessary if you had a 3rd rad. sorry if i'm confusing this somehow. what i thought isaid was that the turbo bumper itself is the same part on all the models, with the only diff being the lip and center grill that comes with each model.

if you have a filler panel, then you made one custom, as there are slight differences between those screw points between the C2 and turbo's. as far as i've reseached, you can't buy that piece. you'd have to get a stock turbo splash guard and cut it back somehow. i could be wrong, but no such piece was avaibable when i did my conversion.

with regards to destabilization at high speed, i'm not buying it . no offense, maybe if you were a professinal racer... i have yet to see my car wheelie at triple digit speeds

The filler part number is for a Anniversary edition it mates the turbo bumper to the narrow body points and fills in the gaps. It has been discussed on renntech in the past. It's $500 or $600 dollars for this piece of plastic.

As for destabilization at high speeds, it is a fact above 100mph that air flow under the car is a factor. This is why the GT3RS and GT2 duct the center radiator air out from the top. So if you don't have the center hole blocked you will be venting warm air down under the car and not to a well directed place. My suggestion is if you don't have the OEM filler and are going to do a 3rd radiator, get the part.

Cheers,
Corey

I still don't believe you'd ever notice any difference unless you're consistenly driving at 150 mph.

However, your aero arguement supports the need for someone to trade me

So, now that those of you that are running the turbo bumper with the turbo center grill are aware that you're taking your lives into you hands every time you get behind the wheel.... who wants to be the first to trade me your incredibly dangerous turbo center for my C4S center grill? Could save your life

By the way, that's good info on the anniversary connector piece for the bottom. Not sure that was even available when I did my conversion. Not that I would spend $600 on a piece of plastic anyway, but good info none the less.

The piece wasn't available till the 2004 model year.

Just so you know, I do regularly do 140+ on the highway and even noticed a major difference with a bigger splitter, so If you drive like me, get the filler piece.

And anyone out there with a turbo bumper with the turbo center piece and no 3rd radiator, please for safety sake trade with DeputyDog

Deputydog95: i have this mod already. Attached is the pic of my car. note that i use the front bumperette to cover up the metal piece showing thru the side grills. For the empty space under the bumper, i did it ghetto style, fabricated a piece of aluminum, painted it black and covered up hole with it.
I didn't know the C4S center grill is solid till now. since i'll be driving on the race track quite often in the future, i might consider swapping with u cuz i think it'd probably help at high speed. Do i have to take the front bumper completely off to take out the front center grill? James and Alex at sharkwerks did all mods for me so i don't know anything about taking off/installing parts.

great looking car K. speed yellow, the fastest color who's rear bumper are you using?

how about a close up of your side grills? i'm trying to figure out what you got going on there. looks like you have pieces of plastic over a portion of the vent. are you using the front bumper warts somehow?

not sure about the center grill. i'll poke my head under there today. shouldn't be too hard and i assume won't require the removal of the bumper, but then again i could be wrong. i'll let you know.

Kbliew: My car is at the shop right now, so I'm not sure about removal of that center piece. Give Sharky a call and see what he says. They have to take my bumper off while it's there so my removal/install will be very easy. If you want to swap, I need you to commit or I have to buy one. Hit me with a pm if you want to discuss it. If Sharky has a lift, which I'm sure he does, it should be pretty easy to pop them on and off. It would be tough on the ground, especially if you car is lowered. Let me know, I can have mine out in the mail pretty quick if you want to do it.

I'll swap with you. FYI the rear bumper is from Mashaw. As for the side grills, the metal pieces were painted black and thus it's not that visible. I just notice that the bumperettes didn't cover that up completely. I'll show some pics later. check your pm for my address.
