Dog: Is your air pump turning on when you start the car cold? It should run for about a minute after a cold start. If it is running, check the hoses from the pump for leaks. Check the changeover valve's electical and vacuum connections. If pump does not start, check the relay and the electrical connection to the pump.

Update on my CEL. Guess it was just a fluke. They cleared it, checked the motor out, no problems and it hasn't come back on ( knock on wood).
On a different note.... check these out:
here's the text from the ad:
This isn't an average set of stainless steel headers, this uniquely designed set is made to unleash the hidden performance inside your Carrera 996. After months of research and development, we found the highest flowing design possible, and the results have exceeded our expectations.
By simply replacing your stock headers, you can dramatically increase the performance of your car without compromising your emissions system. This system is less restrictive than the stock headers, and they are designed to operate with the factory catalytic converters and a stock or sport exhaust. The custom design will organize exhaust gases as they leave your engine, and let them escape more efficiently. And these are designed with the same style merge collectors that are usde on F1 headers. This horsepower is just sitting there waiting to be used, take advantage of it!

As tested on a 2000 Carrera with stock catalytic converters and factory Sport Exhaust, we gained 12.6 hp at the rear wheels. Right off the lift and on to the dyno. Easy install and great power. Includes a set of headers and gaskets. This will fit a 1999-01 Carrera 3.4 liter & a 2002-04 Carrera 3.6 liter. This will not fit a Turbo, GT3, or GT2.

they developed these headers for the parts manager at the dealerhsip. i have spent a great deal of time talking to him about these pipes. basically they took his personal 996 off the road for two months and cut and welded till they got the winning combo on the dyno of header lengths and collectors. 12 peak rwhp and 20ish midrange rwhp. they tested other headers too and came up with next to nothing, which led them to developing their own set.
i already picked up a pair. i have the dyno runs lined up. going to do another before and after. they're not sure how they will react with the supercharger, so if they don't perform...back to the shop they go i can only assume it can only work better with a compressed air setup.

sweet. it 'll be really interesting to see the dyno data.
good to know the CEL was not an issue.

i was actually referring to the suncoast motorsports headers. i put a link on there that will take you directly to their site.
no one has installed a set of the zerotek headers yet. one guy on rennlist bought a set, but has yet to install them. they are supposedly made in taiwan. i tried getting the guy on rennlist to dyno them, but he is too impatient. i would question the quality of the welds for that price. not to mention their intial advertising literally cut and pasted (stole) right off Fabspeed's website, almost word for word. I spoke to the US importer for these zerotek headers about a month ago. they have yet to install a set of these on a car in the US, let alone dyno them. i'm not sure how they're making any claims at all. i certainly don't want to be the guinea pig the price is certainly right though. someone needs to see how they fit and dyno.
the dyno charts suncoast posted is for the car i was looking at last weekend at the sarasota porsche meet. i've seen, touched, and heard this system. they have been on there for some time as I orginally heard them at a porsche meet last year. apparently it's all about the tubing length and collectors. the prototype system they did the dyno runs on is littered with welds from shortening and lengthing the tubing for the best combo. suncoast put a lot in this design. the dyno will tell for sure

i just looked at your link. now they're ripping fabspeed and suncoast off. these guys at zerotek are something else. you would think they could come up with their own advertising.

I came to my senses before I purchased they were manufactured in Hong Kong and I had to import. I don't think there would be much of a change by adding headers on a NA engine, however on yours it maybe a different story and they do sound nice.

This thread sort of died but just to let everybody know my car went for the second taping on Dream Car Garage. Tom Hnatiw the host of the show did all the driving. He really loves how the evo supercharger feels. my tires are smoked though the driverside rear tire actually went flat shortly after the taping. I'll let everybody know when to watch the show. sometime in 06

cool. keep us posted. i'd love to see it.
i do have some updates on the hoses. the test fits were complete on the silicone hoses about a month ago, and they should be ready any time now.
in an effort to do some cpr on the thread , here's my latest dyno run with the headers.

not sure if any of you guys have had this problem but the evo supercharged sign fell off the airbox on the drive home from the track it seems to be stuck there by some glue. have any of you guys noticed this?
#251
yep. happened to me once. it's just double sided taped. make sure you stick it on there while everything is cold. it won't stick right if you apply it with heat in the engine bay.

had to bring this thread back to life for a few questions....
my car went back into the shop to have the silicone hoses installed which were promised to me when i first purchased the kit. also, i wanted to have them address the intercooler pump issue (hose hanging below car).
well, saw it on the lift the other day. pump is installed propery. took a couple pics and will post them later.
also, while it was there, had the cat bypass done. way too loud for my taste, so the bypasses came off and the stock cats went back on.
anyway, i had a friend (Luis993) pick the car up for me. he said it did not appear to be nearly as fast as before. he's driven the car once or twice. then i drove it myself and it definately did not feel like it was boosting.
oddly enough, boost gauage is showing 5 psi. EGT temps are way higher than before, but AF ratios seem to be normal.
we did a couple side by side runs last night for comparison and our cars (his is a 95 993) are about dead even, which they were not before with previous runs before the car started running poorly. i could barely pull on him from speeds of 50 mph, and i had about 1 gallon of gas in there and he had plenty of fuel. this confirms that the car is not boosting regardless of the gauge.
so something is obviously not right. i checked the intercooler pump by turning the key on by not starting it. it started making a lot of gurgling noises, under the car and at the intercooler. it actually sounded like someone was pouring a glass of water into the IC. i have never heard that before.
also, the SC seems like it has a rattle now. and there also appears to way more heat coming out of the engine bay than before. i'm not sure what's going on here. i mean a lot of heat. even the IC is smoking hot when you shut the car off.
almost forgot to mention, with the silicone hoses on there the IC doesn't sit properly anymore. the hoses force it up and out making it more difficult to shut the trunk at times and now something is scraping on the IC number plate.
any thoughts on what we should be checking first here?
