Ctek battery charger/maintainer
Hey all,
Invested in a Ctek mxs 5.0 battery charger/maintainer today because my partner stalled my 996 in the middle of the road and I had to jump it (from the engine bay of course!). The battery had died from not being driven in a month.
Wondering if anyone keeps their 996 on charge with a battery charger?
The Ctek mxs 5.0 I bought is the same brand and similar but a more powerful model than the Porsche branded charge-o-mat ii (and half the price).
My question is should you keep the frunk open and the battery cover off while charging?
The charge-o-mat goes through the cigarette lighter but my '04 Australian delivered car can't do that. The instructions make no mention of keeping the frunk open. I'd like to hard wire the charger to the battery with the supplied cable and keep the unit in the cabin. Any thoughts on keeping the frunk closed? Always thought you should keep a charging battery ventilated?
Search didn't come up with much unless I was using Australian terminology "battery charger".
Thanks!

I keep mine on a charger/maintainer when I'm not driving it. Bought a Sears DiHard for $29.00 and it works perfectly through the lighter. I don't leave the frunk open, but your battery should be vented, there should be a tube running from the battery down and out. I would think there would be a charge/jump point somewhere in the car.

No, I don't open the frunk. The battery has a vent tube. I would think you could open the frunk attach the charger then lower the hood to just rest on the latch, maybe?

Possibly, was hoping I could hard wire up the charger and run the cables through the firewall and have the charger inside the cabin.
I have the vent tube but its not connected to the battery

I keep mine on a battery "maintainer" technically. Any smart charger/maintainer should suffice.
I always make sure to keep a window cracked and hood cracked just in case.
For maintaining a charge, plugging into cig lighter should suffice assuming your battery isn't old and is still in good condition.
BTW, you should really connect that vent tube or risk corrosion in that area.

I've got the "Battery Tender" brand, dual charger... It is a "smart" charger so, no danger of over charging. I've got the quick connect hooked up to the battery (under the cover) with the pigtail connection hanging out the end. When connected to the charger you can still close the frunk (which I do) as the cable is outside the weather-stripping.

The frunk light turns itself off after 2 hours but I remove mine as well to stop the bulb from melting the housing

Close the frunk. This is exactly what I do for 5 months out of the year during winter.
