Xenon question. Has anyone upgraded their xenon bulbs

Xenon question. Has anyone upgraded their xenon bulbs

from 4700k (factory) to something higher like 6000k or 8000k?

Will it work if you just change the bulb and keep the factory ballasts?

Yes. The factory burning temperature is 4100/4300K and 6000K is usually blue while 8000K is usually purple. If you would want to get the color and go up in temperature, I would suggest going up only until 6000K.

The only downside to this type of modification is losing lumen or the amount of light being put into the ground. That's your cost of being "cool"

And to answer your question, you can just change the bulbs if you perform this modification. The ballasts remain..

does factory use Philips Ultinon or Osram Xenarc?

Arling,

Ultinon = 6000K so factory doesn't use ultinon.. I think just regular philips or osram bulbs...

I think if you would want to upgrade to 6000K, ultinons are the best choice. Don't go above 6000K as the light will be useless...

Philips 4300K part number is 85122
Philips 5000K part number is 85122+

****! I got some 8000K bulbs because the 6000's were out-of-stock. Previously had 6000K in my low beams but they are being transferred to the fogs (with ballasts) and the 8000K will go in the low beams. Oh well, if they suck I'll just throw in the OE 4K or get another set of 6000K.

For me, 5000K is the best... Best compromise between color and lumen output.

yeah. anything between 5000k to 6000k is ideal. factory bulb still looking yellowish compare to 5000~5300k true white. anything above is ricey blue imo.

I bought a pair of XTEC 6000k for $150.00

not bad considering life time warranty and I currently have them on my BMW. They look really good.
