Max rear tire size

My 996 is due for some new rear tires. It currently has 285/30/18's on newer (02+) carrera 5 spoke wheels. What is the widest tire size that can safely fit on my current wheels. Thanks in advance for any responses.

...11inch rear's (width) with 315's is the widest you can go with the proper offset of course. Why do you want to go so wide in the first place? I have 285 on my 10inch rears on my 02' C2 coupe and have NO traction issues....supercharger upgrade maybe? Or just for the look?

*** Sorry...just re-read your post/question, you can technically go wider on your current 10 inch wide rear rims but you'd lose handling....just stay with the 285 size unless you change to wider rims

295 will fit ur wheel but they look kinda funky imo. stay with 285 is what i'd do.

i went with mich 295/30/19 on a 10.5 rear and it rubbed and stuck out.
iforged says go down to a 275/30/19 and it should be fine. we'll see...
