You need the VIN number. Any Porsche dealer can check the history with the VIN. If you're dealing with a non Porsche dealer maybe they will tell you if you ask them.

Or you could try this link:
http://www.is-it-a-lemon.com/make/porsche/index.htm

There is another link that you can find the history for a few bucks, but I can't of it off hand. Maybe someone has it.

Either way you need a VIN

That is great - I'd never heard of it before. This is a must-have tool for anyone buying apre-owned P-car.

By the way, I was at a PCA event at The Collection last week, I met the GM and told him I wanted a 996. He told me I "really wanted" to buy a new Cayman. If I wanted a Cayman, I'd be buying a Cayman. Guess where I won't be buying the 996?

That just pissed me off.

I was at the event with my 3 year old son. Happy to see a decent turnout. NOT HAPPY with the exact thing you mentioned. If you you spoke to Pete Risi, he is the BIGGEST piece of $hit there. Now, a friend of mine went there and got that kind of crap from them like usual. After he explained what happened, I told him to go to either Champion or Brumos to get a car.

On a better note, Tim Coughlin, who used to run the whole service dept there, is now on the sales floor. With him you always get the straight goods... NO BS. John Philips and Terry Richards also great to deal with there. But in the end, they have their hands tied most of the time.

Really sad !!

The GM's name was John something. He has a UK accent. I have his card somewhere. I am looking at a C4 now. - It's sooner than I expected to get a car, but what the heck. If it doesn't work out, I'll keep looking, as there seem to be some good deals out there. The trick is finding one here, instread of in Arizona. Are you planning on going to the July event at the Old Heidleburg restaurant? I think the wife & I will be there. (oh yeah, my name's Bill - nice to meet you)

Nice meeting you as well Bill. I have to check the exact date for the July Heidlburg event. We will be going to Road America. Racing at the Brian Redman event from July 12 to the 16.

Good luck with the car search.
