Does anybody have any pictures of aftermarket speakers installed in the dash pod's? I don't really know how to go about modifying the factory grills to get an aftermarket component set to attach to the grill without hacking it up. The door pods seem to be an easy swap. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll have to ask if he makes some adapter plates for the tweeters as well. Does anybody else have any pics on how they mounted aftermarket speakers to the stock grills for the dash and rear quarters?

You dont need plates...its not that hard..but you MUST cut the old speaker and use that to mount the new speaker to the stock mounting. So this is what you do....remove the stock speaker, then use an exacto knife to cut the cone of the speaker just below the foam. Take your new speaker. It should drop into the old one almose perfectly. Use some silicone to make it airtight. Now screw it back in. The cover will hold the speaker in perfectly. No need to buy anything. The tweeter is also a custom thing. remove the old one. Dremel down the edges, and silicone the new tweeter into place. Again sealed and airtight. The rear speakers are the same. This is for the Focal speakers. Replacing speakers in this car requires some sort of modding....

Yeah, but at least that adapter will let me keep my expensive speakers and return to stock if I sell the car. One other question, do you have to splice the wiring harnass to replace the headunit, or does someone make a wiring kit? Crutchfield has nothing. Thanks again for your help and suggestions!

Its actually cheaper to buy a set of speakers...they are like $25 used...cheaper than the bracket....besides you should GLUE them in so they are sealed for the best performance....it seems like a hassle to me to do all that and return it to stock...How much are the speakers you are planning on using? Is it worth the time? I didnt use a wiring harness, splice power cables, and ground, and used RCA outs to my amp and then ran the rear speakers directly to the rear outs of the deck....

For the head unit harness I used a Volkswagen adapter.

If I remember right there are only two types for the 'modern' VW's. Likely the same as the Audi's as well. I got mine from Tweeter but most of the shops should stock the adapters. You can always buy both and return the one that doesn't work. Or, pull the head unit and look at the plug so you at least have an idea what the right one should look like. You'll probably also need an antenna adapter, also a VW part.

Yeah I could do that. I will post up pictures when all is done. I'll try to do a step by step write up. I'm putting in a set of Focal polyglass three ways, the 6.5 in the doors with the 4" and tweeters in the front dash pods. Then just a 4" coaxial in the rear. All will be driven by an Xtant amp, with an Alpine CDA-9857 headunit. This headunit can control an Ipod via a cable which I will run and mount somehow in the ashtray or center console, since you can control the ipod by just the headunit. Photos to come!

I have a similar setup....Focal 165 V3E's, Audison amp, and the Kenwood Touchscreen head unit with my iPod mounted in my center storage console. By the way you will not be able to return your door pod to stock, you will have to cut out way too much plastic to make it fit, so you will have to buy a new door pod to return the stock speakers.

I figured so with the door pod's. Is there still enough plastic left to properly seal the 6.5's, or is some fabbing required? Also did you run all new speaker wire from the focal crossover, or did you reuse the existing factory harness?
