Best mod for folks who got an iPod

I've done this almost couple of months ago and I thought of sharing with the rest, it's the product from IceLink.

It lets you either control the iPod through the HU controls, changes the screen on the iPod, and uses the playlists like CDs from 1 thru 5. Or just use the controls on the iPod just like you used to, I kept on the iPod control, since it's easier for me.

The reason I did this was because all my music is on there with plenty left for more songs and movies, and the no need for a CD changer. It keeps the iPod charged too, plus it gives you the best sound compared to all the FM transmitter methods I tried earlier.

I have a kenwood ipod interface in my Jeep and it works great! I have about 4500 songs on mine and I just hit shuffle and let the music play. Never listen to the radio anymore!

Icelink compatability

On the Icelink, do we know if Porsche's factory deck and changer are made by Kenwood? Do I need to order the special interface for Porsches?

No Porsche factory decks are Becker. If your car is post 2002 (MOST), there is no hard wire interface. Tommy, your link does not work!

Like Statman said

The Head unit is Becker.
In my case, I didn't have a CD Changer and that's where the Icelink Harness plugs on the HU, so it thinks it's a CD changer.
You'd either have to choose the CD changer or the iPod, I'd go with the iPod anytime.

why not just get the becker adapter for $30 and plug it right into the headunit? if you're going to have your ipod right in arm's reach like that and not hidden, why bother with the icelink unit?

the becker adapter plugs right into your cd changer port. select line in and you're listening to the ipod, crystal clear. no, it doesn't charge it. but my ipod battery lasts for 10 hours anyway.

Better sound....The headphone out of the iPod is not an ideal source for amplification...good for the .5 watts for headphones, but way too hot for line level signals, so you must turn the volume down on the iPod, and then you are raising the noise floor....The icelink and the kenwood that I use take the line level output and use that instead of the headphone out....What you can do with the Becker unit is get a iPod line level cable....I saw somewhere that it was being made that took the line level out of the bottom plug and sent it to a pair of RCA cables....

i've never noticed a degradation in sound quality using my becker adapter, but then again i've never compared it to an icelink or line level setup side by side.

the line level to RCA with the becker adapter would be the ticket then. i'm happy with my mini jack to RCA for now, especially since it only cost around $35 for the whole setup

Cool!

But what did you do with the mounting? Did you set it up close like I did with the Icelink? or it's just laying around with the audio cable on?

I like the all-in-one solution of the Icelink with the mounting and charging, since I keep / use my iPod in the car 99% of the time.

i removed my storage cubby under the ac controls. drilled a hole big enough to get my cable through. installed a rubber grommet in the hole because i am an **** retentive freak the ipod sits in the storage cubby. i have just enough slack on the cable to take the ipod out and make adjustments. when i'm done, back in the cubby with it. sits so deep in the cubby, it's almost difficult to see it. i've left my top down with the ipod in there and nobody has ever messed with it ( knock on wood). i use mostly playlists so i'm not making constantly adjustments to the ipod. i am very happy with this so far.

frankly, for what icelink is charging, it hardly seems worth it. if you could hide the ipod in the glovebox and see your songs on the stock radio display and completely control the ipod, i would be all about it. much like it works in the bmw's. but quite honestly, it just appears to be a fancy overpriced charger/connection for the ipod and becker radios.

from what i gathered on the net the dension icelink plus works with "all becker systems that support the silverstone 7860 CD changer"

Could anyone confirm this ?

I'm asking as beckers own IPOD connection only works with certain of their units (not with the Porsche badged ones), it seems to be connected to the same CD changer pins on the unit, so I cant understand why.

http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/acat...cker_ipod.html

(PS, this is all for non MOST system!)
