off topic - cost of opening a drag strip?

Has anyone ever explored the idea of opening a drag strip or have an idea of the cost involved (aside from the land)?
The only drag strip in my area (east coast) recently closed & the land was sold to a developer. The track was old, in terrible condtion, but was always packed. At $20.00 a head, it was a serious cash cow.
Probably a long shot, but what the hell.

It would be cheaper to give the owners of the existing dragstrip a $1,000 for some private runs whenever you want to use it. Liability cost is unlimited owning your own.

I remember BIG Willie around these parts was trying to get Terminal Island to get re-opened back in the late 80's - early 90's..... Can't really say what was all involved but needless to say the deal fell through hence we all used the streets. . . . . "or something like that".

Looks like you and I would have been a good match at a slow 18 sec. pass in my first Honda Civic. But of course I soon learned that the ROTARY was the way to go..... 7 1st Gens, 2 2nd Gens Turbos, 1 3rd Gen Turbo, RX3 & RX2 later I was set on speed......

Not so much the cost of the land as the insurance costs I'm sure. Just like everthing else, just because you make them sign a release waiver doesn't exclude you from being named in a lawsuit.

Yeah, insurance will be a biggie - my agent is looking into this now. Getting a policy on a 996 was a PIA so I can't imagine what this will involve.
