Question on bumper damage estimate

Someone backed into my front bumper at work this morning with the tow hitch of his truck!

It was frustrating to see a big 2500HD truck backed into the spot in front of me. I had a bad feeling about it when I saw that walking thru buildings at work [there was another car up front when I parked]. So I went out to check and I was right about my feeling.

Here's a closup of the damage, what you guys think? the clear bra tried it's best, but couldn't hold more againt that chunk of metal!
Would this be an easy sanding / painting type fix? or a new bumper is needed including the re-application of a new clear bra...

I'm having the insurance adjuster look at it on Monday...

easy fix.

I actually punched a hole in my rear bumper with a tow hitch.
Actually made an inch round hole.
I took it to several body shops, all of them wanted to replace the bumper at a cost of around 3k. I finally found a very nice company in Santa Clara where the guy is a Porsche owner, he pushed it through his shop as a time / materials job and patched it up, they repainted the entire bumper and got out a bunch of other scuffs I had and made it look like new ... all for 1k.

Good deal I thought. I'll go back and have my front done soon.

:-)

you probly have some damage behind the bumper too. there is a plastic bracket around the top area of bumper. it's probly cracked and needs to be repaired.

the bumper is made to be flexible. a repaired bumper will not flex as well after it's patched up. also, a clear bra on repainted bumper will not be the same. paint will be softer and easier to lift if the clear bra is removed.

get it replaced and rewrapped. i hate morons like that. make him pay. his stupid enough to not realize he's damaged someone else's car.

Were are you located? I have a 2003 C2 bumper in perfect condition perpetually for sale in the local papers here. The colour is wrong, but that can be fixed. Get an estimate, push them to pay for a new bumper, and then send me a PM, I'm sure we can work something out.

Angry It's so frustrating

Yeah, I nailed down who he was by going to our company's security office and look up his plate number.

The dufus is not admitting that his tow hitch did the damage, even though all the evidence and other people's opinions say otherwise.
He politically said he'll have the insurance company take care of it, since I baby my car, like if it was a crapcar he'd never bother.

Fortunately, e both have the same insurance company: MetLife [not many to choose from in Massachussetts]. Hoping that'll make it less painful...

I'm planning to demand a new bumper, but I'm sure the insurance would try to cheap out on me.

I hate that he admitted spending some time maneuvering back and forth just so that he can "back in" to the parking spot with a big *** truck like that knowing there is a care behind it. Just used the Porsche's bumper as a bump stop if the tow hitch hits it...

He couldn't just "pulled in" to the spot and avoided all this!
I can't understand how some people have no respect and consideration to others belongings.

Simliar situation with me. GEICO did not even ask, just replace the bumper and any other hidden damage they said. Cost was ~$1600.

hope all turns well
