GT3 Sway Bar Question

on a semi-related note, i've heard of people breaking/bending the stock links with stock bars at track days.

I've not heard of breaking/bending of stock links. I have heard of the rubber bushings that make up the pivot joint at either end deteriorating resulting in alot of slop and noise. The forces on the link are twisting due to steering input and longitudinal due to differences in the side to side suspension movement so as long as there's no binding as the steering turns lock-to-lock, I would be very surprised if even the thin stock links failed due to longitudinal forces. All of the broken drop links that I've seen have been the result of either inproper installation (interference with the lower control arm) or from forcing the steering wheel after the link ball joints have bound up.

What determines where you adjust the drop links to?
Also, Peter, How do you like the H&R Coilovers? I had them on my M3 and thought they were great but many of the 911 owners say they are "floaty"?

I really like the H&R Coilovers. I've got the older ones with no damping adjustments but they work well for me. I don't find them floaty at all, especially compared to the stock non-sport suspension with 60k miles on it and virtual no damping to speak of left. I could practically count in seconds the time it took that car to take a set in just about any corner on the track. The H&R's seem to be a good compromise for street/track usage.

I was talking with my friend Brad who "used" to work at Mind Over Motor Sports, and some of you know from the PCA club races here in so cal....
He has a friend who is a fancy mechanical engineer who loves racing Porsches, & together they developed a unbelievable new drop link for GT3 bars on 996's and boxsters...
I think the gentleman's name is Ira and he is located in San Diego /Escondido.
I will drop them a line and see if they can fill us in on the new product and maybe 6speed online group buy prices...

GT3 sway bars, front and rear. set to middle setting.
Agency power adjustable drop links front and rear.
Works great. Noticed more of an improvement with that than the PSS9's.
I guess this doesn't really answer your question though. It is my understanding that you can't use the stock drop links at all with the GT3 sway bars. Not to mention they're pretty flimsy anyway. I have no idea if the GT3 links would work. I would guess no as the GT3 has a different suspension setup.
If I were you I would just duplicate the setup I have. It definately works. Just make sure you loc-tite the drop links. My installer didn't do that the first time around and they came loose.

What brand of GT3 sway bars do you have I am looking to duplicate your set-up, minus the S/C can't get away with the smog here in CA. Everyone has told me the PSS9 are the way to go if your street the car. Did you install the sway bars yourself or have a shop do it? What was the ~ cost to install the sway bars? Thanks

Agency Power drop links
Bilstein PSS9's
Love my setup. Don't remember the cost on the bar install but I did have a shop do it. Probably expect to pay around a grand to install the whole suspension with alignment.

Deputy,
I have nearly the same suspension. I have K&W variantIII's instead of the pss9's. I also have the rear adjustable controll arms from agency power. THe car already handles great and I can't wait to see it with the full deal. It handles so much better than my Mroadster did after mods, and i thought that was great.
Are there any porche meets in the central florida area. I will have my car completed by October.

Just got the sways and drop links installed. PSS9's dampening set to 5 front, 4 rear. Sways set to center hole like the GT3. Ride height set to 25" (top of wheel well to ground). I cannot believe how this car handles. So flat, and practically no body roll.
NOTE: You WILL need additional hardware for the TRG drop links. Call Austin at TRG, he will get you straightened out. He even called my dealer and gave them detailed instructions on how to install them.
