Universal Garage Door Opener Installation (Pics)

I used these instructions:

http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/albur29

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5770

I bought a Stanley keychain remote for $10 and opened it up to solder two wires to the targa shade switch specified in the links above. I found the correct solder points on the circuit board by using a paperclip to connect two solder points at a time and watching for the LED to light up. I also cut a little hole in the case of the remote control so I could run the wires out of it. Then I used some velcro with adhesive backing to attach the remote to a panel behind the console. The switch also illuminates. I spliced into 2 wires from the windshiled wiper **** below the switch for the illumination. You will need to splice into the Green/Black wire and the Blue/Brown wire. The DIY links above explain which blades to use on the back of the targa switch. The switch works from about a half block away.

Great mod...one of the first I did......make sure you also connect the switch to the lighting so when you turn on your lights it also lights the switch....

Nice. Did the same thing two years ago, but the unit runs through the firewall to the opener, completely sealed.

I HAVE THE SWITCHES if anyone needs them. Just email me:

Is there a way to do two switches? I have a gate and a garage door.

The mickey mouse way would be to get two remote controls, and two targa switches and do the mod twice. The slicker way (but slightly more difficult) would be to get two remote controls, but only one targa switch. Then solder the remotes to separate prongs on the targa switch such that if you press one side of the switch, it activates one remote, then if you press the other side, it activates the other remote.

If you look at the DIYs, they tell you to combine two of the prongs together. By doing this, you can press either side of the switch and it will activate the remote. Instead of soldering the prongs together, solder one prong to one remote and the other prong to the other remote.

YES, no need for 2 switches, one Targa roof switch will operate 2 different doors...thats the way I have it....get a Homelink transmitter (the kind with 3 buttons)...i got a used one from an Audi visor on ebay for $10...then wired one button to one direction on the rocker switch, and another button to the other direction on the rocker switch. Hard wired it into the car power and wired the switches illumination to the lighting system...So when I open the gate, push the switch to the left...to open my garage push the switch to the right...thats the good thing about the Targa roof switch is it is capable of that.

I have two operating doors on the targa switch as well. It's a toggle for each, one switch only.

Do the switches come in the glossy finish to match the rest of my buttons? If so, I'll order one...
