996 Dyno test today!!! (results)
5 of us in NC went to a shop and had a Dyno test today. All 911's (2003, 1988, 1973, 1971, 1970). We had alot of fun and it was interesting also. The other cars were doing some tuning on their cars, I basically went to get a baseline on mine.
We all did the same test: wide open throttle (WOT), we were in 4th gear at 45 mph and went full throttle in 4th gear to 110 mph. The other cars had to drop it down to 105 mph.
My max HP (at the rear wheel) was 232.7 @ 108 mph. The shop had a Mustang Dyno and the technian divided our numbers by 0.75 (or about 310 hp for my car). Factory advertising states a max of 320 HP for my car, this is close. My car has 3,500 miles on it with no mods (yet), this is why I wanted to get a baseline.
Anyway, just wanted to share a fun day with fellow P-car owners.

We did it at Taylor's Sport n Import in Mooresville, NC. Keith Taylor (owner) is going on his 18th year in business in Mooresville. They just recently purchased the Dyno setup. Here is the link to their website:

I know there is supposed to be significant differences from one dyno to the next but I didn't realize how significant.
I have a '99 996 cab that is 100% stock. I had it dyno tested at Speedworks in Dallas last November. The results of my 3 pulls where:
pull 1: 247.2hp/221.6ft-lbs
pull 2: 253.1hp/228.5ft-lbs
pull 3: 256.7hp/228.4ft-lbs
This was also done in forth gear up to red-line (about 110).
I didn't see what year your car was put it seems a bit low even if it's pre-02.
What do the rest of you guys think?

I recently read an article about different types of dyno machines out there where they tested the same car at 4 shops. There was over a 20% variance in rwhp amongst the 4 types of dyno machines. That's quite a bit of difference...

While it's true that a Mustang dyno will read lower than most other dynos, given that it is a true loading dyno -- your numbers are still lower than I would expect.
Heck, S54 M coupes are putting down around 260 on mustang's with a BMW claimed 315 at the crank -- and they are supposed to be less effecient than the 996...

Steve C, I think you were replying to my post on using the Dynajet. Charnock was the original poster with the lower numbers. My peak of 256.7 for a '99 is probably pretty typical.

You'd think I'd be a lot faster at the track with such an advantage
My dyno guy said your should loose approx 15%-17% through drive-train loss which would put me in the 301-308hp range. seems reasonable to me.
