I currently have 295/30/19 tires on my 19"X11" wheels, but I would like to go with a narrower tire to hopefully eliminate rubbing since the wheel offset is very aggressive, not to mention that I can save like 40% of the cost on tires.

I have seen some tires (General, Falken, Nitto) have a 275/30/19 that will fit an 11" wide wheel, but im not sure if it is really safe or if it will look really funny. Can anyone please give me some advice?

Car = Porsche 996
Wheel = Iforged 3 pc.
current tire = Michilen Pilot PS2 295/30/19.

 

Hmmm.....It will work...but I would get a wheel with the right offset....I hav 19x11's and run a 295/30/19 with no problems at all...you might wanna look into a 295/25/19 as well. Are you fenders rolled? You can roll the inner lip of your fenders and gain more clearance as well.

 

The fenders are not rolled yet, & the car is not lowered yet, but will be hopefully soon. I am just planning so that when i put my PSS9's in, I wont have any issues.

I guess this is the ol' Iforged & incorrect offset issue that was mentioned before, I think it looks good, but it is very aggressive... more of a European style look maybe?

Basically the top of the wheel/tire currently is pretty much flush with the outside of the fender.

 

I would roll your fender... Don't go to a narrower tire though.. and don't go cheap on the tire either A great tire to the PS2 is the Toyo T1R

 

If the tire is flush with the fender...rolling may not help....when you lower it, you can put more camber in the rears...this will wear your rears more unevenly, but it will help with rubbing.

 

So, I went to Tirerack.com and selected a 996 C2 coupe, and then i selected a wheel that is 19"X11" in the rear. Guess what, the recommended tire size by Tirerack for this size wheel is 275/30/19... weird thing is that on the tire specs, not all of the tires have a wheel width range that supports 11". Is there something i am missing or is there some give & take when it comes to the specs & tire sizes? Could TireRack be flat out wrong about their recommended tire size for this size wheel?

i wouldn't recommend running 275 on a 11'' wheel. not to mention it'll affect performance as well.

 

I dont know what the offset is because I bought these wheels second hand, is there a way for me to measure it myself?

Ya, 275 on a 11" wheel sounds small, but some tire co.'s have it within spec... im still not sure why Tire Rack recommends all 275's for 11" wide wheels tho...

 

were these wheels for a TT or C4S body car?

 

no, they were supposedly for a C2, which is what I have. The previous owner had them on a 997 C2 & had to use 7mm spacers with them on the 997 since they were designed for the 996 C2.

 

I'm running 275/35/18 on a 10 inch rim, I think 275 on an 11 incher will look horrid. Go for 295 or 305...

 

Why would you want to spend the money to lower your car and install PSS9's, presumably to increase performance, but you are attracted to the idea of saving 40% on tires by going narrower? I know rubbing is your main problem, but I don't think I would be considering PSS9's but trying to fit 275s on the back at the same time. Just my $.02

 

For me the PSS9's are not mainly for performance, mostly for looks & then secondarily a little bit of a stiffer handling ride.

 

if u have them on the car now go take some pics. i won't be able to guess the exact offset but i can tell u if the narrower tire will solve ur problem. since u said they are what they are (custom wheel) i doubt they have problem unless they're for wider body car.

 

if that's what u're looking for then check into Bilstein sport shocks with H&R lowering springs. the set up works pretty well for less money.
