Subwoofer opinions....

I have a AI Design footwell sub box....it came with the JL Audio 8w3V2 D2 driver....the sub seems to be defective as the wires to one of the voice coils have began to fray....so I can replace it with the same driver, under warranty....or replace it with a better driver....The Boston Acoustic/Momo competition driver will work, and I can put more power to it...there is also the Infinity Reference, and the Rockford Fosgate....I am not sure but I think the Fosgate is too deep for the box...any ideas? The Amp is an Audison LRX 6.9, with Focal seperates in the car....The JL Audio did sound VERY good....but I did have the amp turned down to about 7 because the driver was not rated for that much power....so maybe better driver and I can turn it up more? Even though its LOUD enough...lol....

Sounds like more disturbing the peace tickets... if the original wasnt cutting it (or defective?) time to upgrade, maybe this time it will last longer, but then again you'll be cranking it... vicious cycle

The sub may not have sounded good b/c the sub box maybe too big or too small. JL are good subs. Find out the volume of your sub box and pick a sub that recommends that air volume. You can have a bad *** speaker in the wrong box and it will sound like ****.. just my .02

I personally love the JL subs. I've been running a 10W3 for a long time with 250 watts to it and it sounds great. It just sounds like you got a defective one. It you are happy with it, I would just get a warranty replacement. Or maybe upgrade to a 8W7? (probably won't fit in the box)
