Fun Little Project (Stereo)

thanks again guys!... now i'm just waiting for the catastrophy to happen...it always does . I did quite a bit more work today, the fiberglass covering didnt mate up to the base as clean as i would have liked. I had to take a dremel and a sawzall and make it purty. I also added another layer of glass to the inside to make it a little more rigid. I would post up pics, but it wasnt really that exciting.
Hopefully over the next few days i'll be able to do some sanding and bondo and create more of a final product. I need to get my butt in gear...its getting warm out
-john- i would try the carbon fiber thing...i've contemplated it a few times now, but i'm pretty sure i would screw it up with that much curvature. That stuff is not very elastic and i'm no where near good enough to make it look nice with all those curves. I'm still contemplating though !!!

they have a carbon fiber vinyl out there. That would look nice also. check www.selectproducts.com under products and at the end of the list is vinyl.

Now you realize how much work this is you can see why custom stereo shops charge what they do.
Your product is looking great, but smoothed out with carpeting you would have charge at least $600-750 per pair, not counting speakers, right?

NEW PICS!!!
This project has gotten crazy...this is my very first attempt at using bondo. In previous installs i would just carpet over top of the fiberglass layer. But i wanted to be able to paint these if necessary so i wanted to make them nice and smooth and pretty.............apparently this takes a increadible amount of time and work. I've probably pu in another 10 hours on these over the last few days.
All well...its all in fun and i'm VERY happy with how they are coming out.
These first pics are after the glass had dried and i started applying bondo.
These are after my attempts to build out the areas that needed more "fill" like inside the speaker holes...i wanted them perfect

This is amazing! Apart from the incredible work, just seeing all the steps of how custom enclosure's are constructed has been very informative. You should Copy and paste your posts into an instructable

I could definatly do something like that. Were you thinking like a pdf or word document....or a informational post???
If people would gain anything from it i would definatly do something like that.
BTW...thats for the compliment. I'm amazed it came out as good as it did...i was worried in spots. Now to see how it paints up ???
