Removing Ignition Lock Assy

What a pain I'm trying to remove the ignition keylock and switch assy. I removed the (1) nut and bolt that attaches it to the steering column and it seems loose and pulls out about 1/8" but will not come out all the way, seems almost like you need to push a pin or something to release it.

Any gurus out there.

I thought that there was a concealed screw that you had to remove from below. Small guy with red paint on it, IIRC.

Got that one on the head. On the top of where it slides in, there is a pin to depress. Can be tricky on some, getting the pin depressed and wiggling it out at the same time, some are stuck in pretty good.

When I have done them, I have the key already in the on position, and the ignition barrel already out, unplug the harness at the back to keep the battery from running down. And the new one will install in the "on" position. So, to answer the original question, press it in with the key on, it shouldnt take a lot of effort.

That's the problem I can not get the key to turn to the on position. What are you referring to regarding the ignition barrel? I am also wondering if I can remove the key tumbler/barrel to see if it is possible turn it to the on positon some how with a tool of some kind. Any other suggestons.

BFH. Seriously though, I assume you went through the several layers of threads on this issue on renntech? There seemed to be quite a bit of discussion in the boxster area. Have you tried pulling the instrument pod off to get a better view? Its fairly easy to do if you haven't done so already.

I have gone to other forums Renntech included mostly using searches, I'll try the boxster area for tips also. Someone suggested cutting the lock cylinder out of the lock housing. I still can not post pictures up here.
