Exclamation 996 3.6 STOCK - PLENUM installed with dyno chart

The car was bone stock except the Sparco seats, the non-N rated tires and the H/R springs. 53k miles.

The car was dyno'd at CARB CONN in Redmond, Washington (500ft altitude)this afternoon. All runs shown were in 4th gear. Dyno chart is SAE corrected. The car was not taken off the dyno, the CPU was not reset, the battery stayed connected. Extra runs were done in-between with different gears etc. to help the cpu adjust. I will be driving about 700 miles this weekend and will be putting it back on the dyno in about a month for a chip and possibly exhaust. Uncorrected was 293.75rwhp/264.85rwtq

Run002 66.63 F, 50% humidity
STOCK

Run004 67.8 F, 45% humidity
ADDED PLENUM

Run002 71.8 F, 40% humidity
PLENUM plus ADDED K/N COLDAIR INTAKE

Here are some notes. The Plenum from RSS was a slight pain to install but not hard (per the tech). The K/N coldair intake from Vividracing was a ton of parts to assemble but was not hard to install. Overall the Plenum piece is very impressive to look at and the K/N kit seemed to be of good quality. I didn't realize that the K/N would open up the sound so when I stepped on it, I was (very happily) surprised.

Bang for the buck the K/N is a great choice. The plenum added HP and TQ 5-10rwhp (depending on where in the rpm range). Chipping the car and an exhaust should yield another 15+ hp to bring the car to over 300rwhp (sae correct on a dynojet dynometer).

Thank you to CarbConn, the local dyno shop who are always courteous and professional.

There was no remuneration from anyone including those stated within this post.

wow...not nearly as impressive as the 3.4 #'s. Is the stock plenum the same on 3.4 and 3.6's????

I assume you mean the Plenum. RSS can get you it (look at the sponsors on the right for the RSS - Road Sport Supply). Ask them for the price. It is $995 retail. There was a group buy a couple weeks ago but I think that is over. The K/N coldair intake is $279 retail and be purchased from many places including VividRacing (where I got mine) (look at the sponsors on the right for Vivid Racing). I will add that Vivid Racing was great to me. I needed the part shipped to the dyno shop and it had to be there quick. Working with them was like clockwork.

Yes I would agree and I believe RSS agrees (by way of their site) that the 3.4 will see better hp gains than the 3.6. I think I saw possibly an 11hp gain somewhere in the chart. DeputyDog saw a 20hp gain (his 3.6 is supercharged and has a full exhaust) on a more stingent dyno (probably about 22 on a dynojet). So as you add more components you should see slightly larger increases (possibly) due to the Plenum.

Not the 25 hp that you would like? The plenum did not add that much. Maybe more after it adjusts.

Headers - $1000
Exhaust - $1000
Plenum - $1000
Chip - $1000
Intake - $500

Total - (roughly) - $4,500.00 - more if you you don't DIY.

Net HP gain? Anyone?

Bang 4 the buck quotient?

John I agree....All of that becomes the "law of diminishing wallet return" to me, for what output we all want out of our 996s. This is why my 99 3.4 will only see a plenum, a B&M SS and PSS9 suspension...and maybe a exhaust...but this is dead last on the list
I built a WorldChallenge Mustang in the early 90s....had more than 60k in aftermarket/racing parts in that car............never again.
Saving for a TT that will have all the HP I ever need......

I think the issue is the ECU reset...

I'd be curious to see a similar temp test done after a month of driving with the ECU reset. Also I'd be curious with a regular tube only cold-air kit like the fabspeed or Shnell with a stock air filter. I'm personally not convinced that the K&N doesn't let in hot air because it has openings for the oil filler tube and may not fit perfectly to the top of the engine lid since it isn't completly enclosed. It looks hot though...

I'd also be curious what the plenum would do on an X51 car which already has a redesigned one.

I would say closer to $3200-$3500 but still, a reasonable amount of money. Thats almost half an S/C on group buy. And all that for probably less than 35 RWHP (instead of 110 RWHP on an S/C). I may go S/C some day and everything I have and will be adding (except the cold air kit) is usable and add's HP to an S/C kit.

There is no need for ecu reset at WOT. Unless your engine was retarding timing because of knock before hand, WOT follows the ecu mapping based on parameters fed by the MAF which is real time data.

How the hell do you think Redmond, WA is nearly a mile-high above sea level at 4,500 feet?

FYI, CarbConn sux.

???? Is this in response to my post...
The more airflow to the engine is like having an engine at a lower altitude. Why do you think that even a cold-air kits get's you some HP. Colder air is denser, just like air at a lower altitude.
