Newport Beach quoted $300 for oil change. :(

UGH NO .. Send car to someone who knows what they are doing...

2) is 10/40 Mobil syntec the right grade for our cars in Cali?
NO 0-40 is the only oil specified for Porsche cars. Again STOP send car to someone who knows what they are doing.

3) I do have a floor jack, which side would i need to put it? driver or passenger
Stop before you hurt yourself not to mention the car..

4) after i drain my oil, do i need to start the engine so it pushes any left over oil out or just opening the drain plug, drains all 9 quarts inside the engine.

Sure.. Your oil service just went from $300.00 at the "stealer" to about 15k parts and labor to replace the engine you just started with no engine oil in it because you wanted to "push the left over oil out of the engine"

Again......... Stop.............. Call someone who knows what they are doing..

Now that $300.00 bucks sure sounds like a bargain.. Doesnt it????

Thanks for all the info.
Probably do it this weekend.
Again , Just my .02 cents on the matter.......

OMG-
This is a recipe for 'oil change gone wrong' - I would highly advise taking your pcar to a reasonable and knowledgeable shop for your oil change. If it is a friendly shop, they may even take the time to explain a few things to you and you can get on the road to eventually servicing your own car without worry.

I'm sorry, don't mean to be overly-critical so please don't be offended, but I don't want to see you mess up your nice pcar with a novice mistake.

Take the car to someone and get it done, the receipt from the dealer or anyone else will prove that you performed the service and may help you with future engine problems with PCNA if the occur.

The dealer does a quick inspection that'll probably prevent major future repairs. My dealer never sold me anything I didn't need, those guys aren't selling Chevys. They know if they BS us they'll lose our business.

I used to have a RAM that I can use to transport the oil in but I'm not putting oil in my Pcar or Jeep.

What's up with this fire up the engine to push oil out????? I keep hearing it all the time. Drive the car for about 20 mins, go back to your garage and let it drain for about 45 mins to get all the oil out. If you're **** about it, then go to a shop that has an oil vaccum machine.

1. if you can find one that has one of all sizes (someone posted on here or rennlist what it looks like if you search) then yes. Otherwise, try finding the bike chain tool I spoke about or buying the exact tool from Porsche is like $25 i think.
2. No...Mobile 1 0W40 is factory fill...
3. I would jack both sides and also be able to use jack stands...don't just jack 1 side.
4. No...just drain, fill, check, and drive.

If you're new, maybe have a friend who has done a oil change before help. It's no different than any other one I've done with the exception of the 8MM hex versus a 15 or 17mm socket.

I've got to put another vote in for Hergesheimer in Orange County as well - had nothing but great experiences there and they certainly know what they're doing and will do the job at a very competitive rate. I've also paid $290 for the oil change at NB Porsche and can tell you there is nothing about the place that merits the expense. Further, I have had enough underwhelming and rude service experiences there to take my business elsewhere at any opportunity.

End dealer rant. Sorry.

$300 seems to be the going rate for oil change at the P dealer. The Porsche dealership in Toronto, Canada (Downtown Porsche) quoted the same price. It is the price you'll have to pay for driving a Porsche. I bought my P-car 5 months ago and am getting used to the cost of ownership. I have been doing plenty of maintenance to my Beemer myself and will be doing the same to the P-car as I get more familiar with it. Now, if only I can find a Bentley manual for Porsche 996 . Too bad it doesn't exist ...

0W40 oil is a challenge to find in Canada ... at least in the Toronto or GTA region. The only oil available that I can find off the shelf is at Walmart... Mobil 1 5W50 and Castrol Syntec 5W-40.

I bought the 0W40 oil when I was in Buffalo on a recent shopping trip with my wife. Autozone and Pep Boys certainly have quite a variety of oil grades compared to stores in Canada.
