Newport Beach quoted $300 for oil change. :(

Before you send to dealer, seriously, just consider doing it yourself. I kid you not when I say it's probably the easiest oil change Ive ever done on any car.
Mobile 1 0W40 is about $6/qt and you need 9. Porsche filter from dealer = $20 bucks.
You need a 8mm hex to get the drain bolt off and a filter wrentch for the oil filter canister. The canister literally sits right in front of your face when ur under the car...no weird angles. You just need a tool that fits (my neighbor had this tool that basically looked like a bicycle chain that could wrap around)
Took me about 15 minutes (not including draining time) and costs around $75 versus the $200 the dealer wanted.

OMG- That is just robbery. But, it is similar with BMW ($280).
The dealer calls it an 'oil service' - meaning, they supposedly check other things at the same time- but IMO they are just looking for more things to sell you.
I thought changing oil on a BMW was easy... changing the oil on my pcar was a SNAP.
Besides the tools mentioned above, you do need a proper set of low ramps or a floor jack.

If you a weary about doing it, I can help a fellow Porsche owner out. I use Torco SR-1 5w-40 synthetic in my Porsche: www.torcousa.com
If you do not mind driving to Chino, I have filters, plenty of Oil, and a means of disposal.

Guys
Understand the dealer will always cost more on any service but take into account over head. I am not saying it right or wrong but you need to look at it in a rational manner.
Yes you can all do your own services and pep boys sells oil too.
But if its the dealer service you want then you will have to pay for it.
Some dealers are more and some are less.
Many of you own business's and you charge a fair price for your services what ever they maybe.. The cost of operating a automotive business in southern california is not exactly in-expensive with all the taxes, licenses and fees. Not to mention the fact that you have to pay a "technician" for his time. People want and have to eat you know........
As far as Jiffy lube or some other chain oil service centers doing oil services on your P cars, yes they can probably do the job. And chances are they can do it correctly. But what happens when the one guy makes the mistake and something goes really bad.. Then what????
We do oil services on P - Cars as well as routine service and maintenance work as well. While we arent as expensive as the dealer we surely arent as cheap as the chains or the mom and pop shops who are struggling to drag work in either.
You pay for what you get when it comes to service and 9 out of 10 times its the intangable that we dont put a dollar value on that can really bite in the long run.
The same holds true for dentists, doctor's, plumbers, contractors, plastic surgeons.. ($1999.00 for your GF boob job? No thanks ... Ya get my drift..) LOLOL
Anyways just my .02 cents since I am on both sides of the fence when it comes to this.
And lastly the proper weight oil for your cars is 0-40 if someone is putting something else in it during an oil service .,. Ya gotta wonder...
Regardless of they "say" if Ok.........
