replacement tires for 996
#31
An insider in the tire biz told me that the party line is to not recommend the lower priced tires due to the profit margins, also the build costs associated with these premium tires are nearly the same as standards (different compounds and wraps), but is passed on to a group who can usually afford the higher margins.........not sure if this is the case, just relaying what i was told.
My car is a daily driver. I have over 14k miles on these Sumi's, city, highway, and hard club runs w/Porsche club members in all types of weather and have not had any issues to date...maybe i was lucky. But cannot argue with the price of these.
I have just ordered another set of rears for my car (fronts look new!) and will be mounting them next week.
Since i don't push this car to the outer limits, I am of the mindset why pay hundreds more to eke out that xtra micro lat G, as driver skills will usually compensate, unless of course you are in a sanctioned race.
Everyone has their opinions, both right and wrong and this is just my 2 cents....
Good Luck!

The HTR Zii's get great reviews.
2 questions. Has anyone used them on a 911/ i have the 40th anniversary edition so I have 18" wheels (225/40's and 285/30's) and since the fronts are still in pretty good shape what do you think about replacing the rears only?
Thanks much,
Chuck

Does anyone have tracking / pulling issues with the sumi's or kumho's?
I had a set of Yokohama ES1000's once and they sucked on the freeway. Pulled you everywhere with the asphalt lines. Not only that they were so noisy after 5k miles I ripped them off the car (E46). Not acceptable!
Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli do not pull or track on road lines and seem to stay quiet as they wear. I ran a set of Fuzion ZRi's once on my E46 and they were great tires for street use, quiet, good grip, predictable, etc.
Although they do not have a reinforced stiff sidewall so definitely no track use!

EDIT: They do make that size in the pole position variety.
