replacement tires for 996
#46
I am really happy with the OEM Michelin's that came with the car. I have 6500 miles on them since I got my CS4 last spring - including about 500 miles on the track thus far. Tires are still in good shape. Someone told me that a day on the track is equal to 3,000 miles of normal road use. Not on these.. If this were so, my tires would be toasted by now. The wear front and rear is pretty even with just a bit more wear on the front - not surprising giving the hard track use with an AWD car. I have at least ten more track days this summer and don't expect them to last through the summer - but I will replace them with the same. Next year, I'll probably use a different set for the track if I can figure out where to keep them in my one bedroom NYC apartment

Toyo Proxies- Thoughts anyone? I saw a set on a 6speeder's car today and he likes them a lot. Tread pattern looks nice. Tirerack.com does not have much of a selection in Toyo.

Went with thhe Sumitomos from the TireRack. If they end up sucking, then at least they were cheap. If they give me 1-2 years, then it'll have been good money spent.
So far, the tire is nothing outstanding in any one department. since the previous tires were shot to hell, i can't really draw any fair comparison to them.
did 130mph today and they felt good. fuel economy might be suffering a bit, so i'm keeping an eye out for this. the last couple tankfulls have averaged about 10% less than before the tires.

Chuck,
Don't mix tires and stick with the N-Rated tires. When it comes to surgeons, lawyers, parachutes, and tires for my Porsche, I think of the saying "There's some money that's not worth saving."
Your signatures indicates that you have a sport suspension. Which one?

I used Toyo Proxes RA1's on my 600HP Vette. They stuck very well but wore out in 6 months. They were also only rated for 103MPH. I guess they were an autocross tire. I'm interested in trying the T1R cause if they're anything like the RA1, I'll like them. I echo the Toyo question above, "Anyone tried the T1R?"
