I have to change pads, and a few other things...nope never hit my calipers with my wheels.....maybe I am careful, or lucky....so again, you HONESTLY think that scraping your wheel against the caliper will only affect stickers and not paint? Lets just enjoy the great cars and know both ways are durable...which one is more durable remains to be seen...lets touch bases in a few years and see what they both look like....my bet is they will both look the same....maybe an episode for Mythbusters?

no no. scraping can affect paint as well. my point is that it is less susceptible to being scraped off. look at my reply to iceman. if you can scrape it off with your fingernail then what would you think? i would consider the decals durable if one uses a good coat of clear over it.
i guess that, because i am in product design, i am adamant about quality control. in the end, it's easy enough to buy another set of decals and slap them on.
you wouldn't want to see my calipers now . those pics were from 5 years ago. i started tracking 3 years ago and the high temps have roasted the paint! if anyone on this thread asked if i recommend VHT paint for the track as well as the street, i would flat out say no. for the track i would only recommend powdercoating. even the oem paint on my boxsterS is fading from one track event.

The last time I have witnessed an errant wheels installation to the degree that would scrape a caliper was when I was driving Power Wheels...
Im not saying that painting isnt the BETTER option, It's just not a SUPERIOR option...The only way to do calipers RIGHT is to powdercoat them and the lettering. This is not saying that other methods are bad.

i guess you just don't understand my example of scraping it off with your fingernail....i thought it was crystal clear.

I am in product design too and that means nothing on this subject...
There is one answer to the original question and that is "whatever is easier for you"

sorry, i meant i am adamant about "quality" and this does pertain to this subject. as a product designer, you should be concerned about quality too .

My calipers are powdercoated yellow and I have the black vinyl sticker lettering. No clear cloat. It's been that way for a couple years now. Looks the same as when they were installed. I'd probably prefer painted letters if it could be done perfectly, but I think it would be really difficult to do.
Can I give some advice, please don't use that foliatec garbage. That was the biggest waste of time and money. I tried it twice and came out like crap both times. Either spray with VHT paint, or do what I did, just have them powdercoated. Sandoval on here has an exchange program. Pick any color you want, he ships the calipers, you ship your old ones back so he can do it again. Very reasonable.

He powder coats brakes as a hobby ($500 for all four) and maybe he'll share his secrets for DIY... The pics look good but I can't tell if it's stencil or decal. (I suspect decal.)
