Painting calipers - decals or stencil?

Hello!

I´m going to paint my brake calipers soon. But I want to leave them built-in!

But I am indecisive right now. Should I use some decals after I painted the calipers and "seal" the whole thing with dear varnish?
Or would it be better to use a stencil?

Would you recommend a sprayer or paint brush?

Does anyone have a detailed instruction?

Thanks, Cade

Don't know but maybe you can email this guy:
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...howtopic=14406

He powder coats brakes as a hobby ($500 for all four) and maybe he'll share his secrets for DIY... The pics look good but I can't tell if it's stencil or decal. (I suspect decal.)

I vote for "dear varnish," that sounds crazy! In seriousness, though, I bought the decals from Xenon mods, cleared them with high temp clear coat from the local autoparts store, and they have been holding up great for over a year (about 14k miles). Good luck.

Don´t you think high-pressure cleaners would be a problem?

IMHO clear coat would protect the decal...

Probably. But I don't do that. I wash my car myself. I've used tons of wheel cleaner and no problems.

I used the decals as well and finished them off with high temp clear coat. To date I have had no issues. One thing I can say is when you are ready to place them, you only get one chance so be precise.

what specific paint colors for red / yellow did you guys use? Just the standard 'hi-temp yellow' or 'hi-temp red' at the local auto parts store?

hey I was just at xenonmods.com- they sell the decals in set of 6 for $7.99, and you can get them in different sizes. cool.

But I was also cracking up... who would actually take the time to do this????

Today I bought special paint caliper color. The firm is "Folia Tec":
http://v2-en.foliatec.de/shu_cms/index.php?kid=19

I heard good things about it and the resistance should be very good.

They have Folia Tech products in the US:
Bray Group, Inc.
8432 Rovana Circle Suite #1
Sacramento, CA 95828
Phone: +1.916.386.0131
Web: http://www.braygroup.com

After painting the calipers I will put the decals on them.
In the DIY superstore I found a heat-resistant clear coat. I think I will put it over the decal area (but I hope you won´t see it - otherwise I have to coat the whole caliper).
