Painting Calipers Advise.....

Attention All:
This is not a good DIY project, trust me! Although you might have moderate success, I would definitely not recommend trying it unless you have a set of spare calipers to do a test run. I personally do not like anything less than perfect on my car.
I have one of the most state-of-the-art powder coating facilities in the southeast at my disposal, and in retrospect I wish I had just had Eric SANDOVAL do them for me. For the money, you can't beat his price and quality (as far as I can tell from the pictures anyway).
Additonally, if you plan on doing any track time: Driver's Ed, club racing, etc. the finish will most likely stain, as mine did the first DE event I ran after coating the calipers. The front calipers softened up from the heat then basically absorbed the brake dust.
Since I plan on doing more DE events, a set of '03 996TT rotors and red calipers are going on the car before the next event at Sebring.
There's a picture of the yellow calipers on my site if you care to take a look.
Good Luck!
Mike

Hey Irvine, I would suggest you take your calipers to Race Technologies (they're in Redondo), they are the official Brembo distributor for the US and they do this stuff all day (I sent a set of Brembo's there for my BMW awhile back) - the can also setup a logo for the porsche (which I'm sure they have). I remember it costing in the $200 range but well worth it to not have to worry about the headache of paint coming off and having a solid quality job w/logo.
Just my 2 cents.

No way!! I ordered My 8-piston brembos from race technologies and they charged me 500 per axle for silver hats and PORSCHE lettering...This is of course steep but im just saying that 200 for all 4 is near impossible...especially from race technologies

deputydog and dpblessing,
the "PORSCHE" decals can be purchased on ebay, they do not melt or get distorted in anyway. $5.95 for 8 decals in any color, white, black, silver, red and blue you get to choose. as far as break dust collecting on the paint, hasn't happened yet. i do agree powder coating is a much nicer quality. just don't have the time for so much work since i try to do most mods on my car by myself.

Love the avatar. My wife had a pet monkey when she was a kid. His name was Sherman and he loved cigarettes!
Do the decals just go over the stock "Porsche" imprint on the calipers? The car is at the dealer right now so I can't look at it, but aren't the porsche letters kind of stamped into the caliper. I'm just trying to picture how the logos would look.
As far as the paint on kits, they work great and look every bit as good as the powdercoating. The spray on stuff is junk, but the two part epoxy kits don't come off. I've seen that stuff last for years. All is costs is $40 and about three hours (including drying time). It usually takes about two coats to do it right. If you don't want to dissassemble your calipers and pay hundreds of dollars, the paint on is a great option. Most of the crappy looking jobs you see out there are kids who use hi temp spray paint.
