Pirelli vs. Continental

Hi guys,

I'm currently running a set of Continental on my 2002 996 C2. My rear tires are wearing out and I'm thinking of replacing them with a set of Pirelli.

I've heard that the Pirelli tires make much more noise at high speed. Is it true?
Also, which ones are better?

I've had P-Zeros and Contis and have always prefered the Contis because they are quieter and ride better.

I had Conti's on my old Boxster and they were fine. I had Pirelli's on my 996 and I WILL NEVER BUY THEM AGAIN! Way too loud. Does that answer your question? I threw on some Yoko's AVS100's on my 996 and they are super quiet and cheap. They handle good but there is a tad more sidewall flex "at the limit". Regarless,I'm very happy with them.

conti v pirelli

contis are quiter however I think the pirelli is a better tire. I have ran both back to back and think the pirelli sticks better. That was on a 996 tt-no experience with the tires on the 996

I had Conti's as original tires. I had rear explode on me @11k, which based on polls as far as they will take you. I did switch SO3's and very much happy with them.

I have Conti's, and when my rears wore out, I replaced them w/ Conti's again b/c my fronts still had a lot of wear left on them.
That was at 9500 miles.

Now at 12,000 miles, my fronts need replacing soon. I will probably just get Conti's b/c of my rears being pretty new. hehe

I wouldn't recommended switching brands unless you're changing all 4 tires.

I think the Contis are fine on street and track, but I'm tempted to try another brand next. Probably the S03's... I haven't heard many good things about Pirellis, so I think I'm staying away from those.
